[Other Sport] A sad moment in the history of the Noble Art or the path which the sport is going down?

Jake Paul vs 58 year old Mike Tyson.

Clearly gen z (or whatever they call it) and the You Tube generation will lap it up but as Tony Bellew says when he’s 68, hopefully if he makes it, Tyson will look at his resume, Berbick, Spinks, Holmes, Ruddock, Lewis, Douglas, Bruno, Holyfield and errr Jake Paul.

Have no desire to watch it, and only hope Paul doesn’t possess the wherewithal to seriously hurt Tyson?

Hopefully it will be the same non event as Mayweather vs McGregor was?

However if the viewing figures match up to the predictions whose going to be next on the gravy train?

Would be much more interesting if it was rival Politicians. I would definitely pay to see that.

It is what it is

There's clearly a demand for it and it'll make people some money, so everyone's a winner.

Boxing is weird anyway – and this isn't the worst/most shocking thing that has happened in the sport, so I can't really see what the fuss is all about.

I've always found boxing extremely boring, at least when it's "celebrities" it's slightly more interesting. I probably still won't watch it.

Right, yes, agree with your point.

But my philosophy on these stunts is to fold my arms, turn my back, and not give it oxygen. If everyone did the same who was against it and not curious about the spectacle, it would very quickly disappear.

Even ridiculing it (and it is just about as brazen a cash grab imaginable) gives it hype and advertising.

As a result this is the last I will comment on this absolute joke of an exhibition.

Really not sure why beating the shit out of another human being can be considered a 'sport' or a 'noble art'. In real life it's anything from assault to GBH.
If it helps, in this particular exhibition there won’t be much fighting.

The women's undercards look better than the main bout, which won't hit our screens until about 3am BST. Can't see many staying up for that.
Not really sure that that the UK audience is their main target (yes i know i'm pointing out the bleeding obvious).

To answer the OP - i think that celebrity fights are here to stay for a while, but they'll become a lesser event over time. People will get bored of them.

To be fair, a lot of what happens on a football pitch would be classed as assault if you did to someone in the street!

I've no particular moral objection to boxing, clearly calling it noble is a nonsense, but if that's what people want to do then that's up to them. Having said that, fighting a 58 year old man does feel uncomfortable/exploitative to me.

If you remember watching Tyson's last couple of fights 20 years ago you will know he was past it then and got beaten up by bin men. I hope I am wrong as Jake Paul is a c**kwomble but I wouldn't be surprised if the younger fitter guy at he's peak (27) hurts Tyson badly.

Hopefully the towel will come in long before that, and if the paying public wet themselves over a premature ending, f*** em 😂

Both, really.

Still, it caters to an audience; I guess it meets a need now that dog-fighting is illegal.

I had absolutely no idea who this other bloke was, but if he's 27, fighting a 58 year old, it is wrong on many many levels
