[Other Sport] A sad moment in the history of the Noble Art or the path which the sport is going down?

No doubt it will be scripted like WWE and the winner is already known.

The one certainty I won't be watching.

Really not sure why beating the shit out of another human being can be considered a 'sport' or a 'noble art'. In real life it's anything from assault to GBH.
I have often thought that if boxing was not a sport and someone suggested it became one it would not stand a chance of being approved.

Head protection,,,,,nah no need for that, they are wearing gloves.

pro boxing is to blame for this. They could not get fury and Joshua in the ring together so people gave up. Plus I have seen loads of dodgy decisions that just make it all pointless.

Right, yes, agree with your point.

But my philosophy on these stunts is to fold my arms, turn my back, and not give it oxygen. If everyone did the same who was against it and not curious about the spectacle, it would very quickly disappear.

Even ridiculing it (and it is just about as brazen a cash grab imaginable) gives it hype and advertising.

As a result this is the last I will comment on this absolute joke of an exhibition.
You are have certainly invited a wider discussion on the relationship between oxygen, publicity and gimp-fighting.

Perhaps we could get the discussion filmed and . . . .

Oh, hang on....

A properly licensed boxing match, with two willing participants, a clearly defined set of rules and a ref to uphold those rules is about a million miles away from a fight after pub chucking out time where the closest thing to the British Board of Boxing Control is some Karen shouting "Leave it Trev! He's not worth it" over and over again.

Jake Paul vs 58 year old Mike Tyson.

Clearly gen z (or whatever they call it) and the You Tube generation will lap it up but as Tony Bellew says when he’s 68, hopefully if he makes it, Tyson will look at his resume, Berbick, Spinks, Holmes, Ruddock, Lewis, Douglas, Bruno, Holyfield and errr Jake Paul.

Have no desire to watch it, and only hope Paul doesn’t possess the wherewithal to seriously hurt Tyson?

Hopefully it will be the same non event as Mayweather vs McGregor was?

However if the viewing figures match up to the predictions whose going to be next on the gravy train?
Boxing, a noble art?? You have to be joking?

He’s likely still got the power, he’s in great shape. It’s the reaction times and speed that may let him down. If he can get some hurt bombs in early, he’s got a chance. But 58 is OLD for a fighter.

I really can’t call this one.

Tell that to Michael Watson, Nick Blackwell, Jonjo Finnegan, Jubal Rej Kurian and countless others, plus Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson (RIP).

They all willingly took part. Injuries are a part of sport and they knew the risks they were taking.

Bellew is only there to try and salvage his own payday, strange behaviour for the man that claimed “he would walk away and become a family man”

It will be interesting for 2 mins then it will be awful as Tyson gasses out. He’s 58 and I’m afraid he’s old. I hope he’s well paid as he gave us a lot of entertainment growing up.

An evening with Nigel Benn in Brighton next saturday if anybody wants to hear and see the legend. I think the metropole.

I was with you up to there.

Aside from 'you may get hurt' I suspect the average pro boxer over the modern history of boxing has almost no idea of the impact of impact.

The fact that boxing is an arrangement between 'consenting' adults is all that's left of the thin ice that keeps it above water.

While I used to very much enjoy boxing. Both partaking and watching .

I came of age in the era of Tyson, Holyfield et al and the big Vegas fights. Loved it.

However, the sport is now so fragmented that titles and belts are a bit meaningless. It’s all a bit of a mess with MMA and Cage fighting mixing in with boxing etc. It’s all very watered down.

Plus it’s very hard to justify the whole thing. People battering each other for the entertainment of others.
