A (fake internet) Australian view of immigration

Prime Minister Julia Gillard- Australia
Muslims who want to live under Islamic Sharia law were told on Wednesday to get out of Australia , as the government targeted radicals in a bid to head off potential terror attacks..
Separately, Gillard angered some Australian Muslims on Wednesday by saying she supported spy agencies monitoring the nation's mosques. Quote:
'IMMIGRANTS, NOT AUSTRALIANS, MUST ADAPT.. Take It Or Leave It.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Bali , we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Australians. '
'This culture has been developed over two centuries of struggles, trials and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.'
'We speak mainly ENGLISH, not Spanish, Lebanese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society ... learn the language!'
'Most Australians believe in God. This is not some Christian, right wing, political push, but a fact, because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.'
'We will accept your beliefs, and will not question why. All we ask is that you accept ours, and live in harmony and peaceful enjoyment with us.'
'This is OUR COUNTRY, OUR LAND, and OUR LIFESTYLE, and we will allow you every opportunity to enjoy all this. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about Our Flag, Our Pledge, Our Christian beliefs, or Our Way of Life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great Australian freedom, 'THE RIGHT TO LEAVE'.'
'If you aren't happy here then LEAVE. We didn't force you to come here. You asked to be here.
So accept the country YOU accepted.'

It would be wonderful to hear something similar from our politicians ... but they can leave out the God nonsense.

Do you have a link to this story? I am interested to know where it came from. This sounds a bit radical for our julia!

No.

The nation that is Australia today was not founded by Aboriginals.

It was colonized by the English and it was through the hard work of people from all around the globe that modern day Australia came to be.

I was talking to an Aussie the other day who says his homeland is still a very racist country. You seem to be a good example of this.

Which makes her statement even more ridiculous then...

Does it?

Isn't she trying to head off what's happening in other nations? There is no place for Sharia Law in Australia.

There is no place for Sharia Law here. There is however plenty of room for Muslims who do not follow this law.

I kind of agree with the idea of what she's saying but she's made a complete arse of saying it.

It amounts to the same thing fella, you are living on stolen land and your so called great nation has done f*** all to rectify that. However, as has been pointed out this speech is not Gillard's so what's the point?

Oh and btw julia Gilllard never said this. Bits of it were said by previous PM Howard and some of the rest by other politicians, but some trolll has joined it up added some more and combined it into an anti-islamic rant. Odd that it's resurfacing attached to the current Australian PM, but hey thats racists for you.

There is no great demand for Sharia law here...and I doubt if there is in Australia...

Other than a tiny minority of lulu's that are in every civilisation...
Why is there a place for Beth Din in England and not Sharia? Its virtually the same thing.

I'm a racist for pointing out a historical fact?

You must therefore be an example of an idiot with no knowledge of the subject.

It's a fact, yes, but the fact that you still seem perfectly happy to exclude the Aboriginals from your view of what Australia is today shows your true feelings on the matter.

Reminds me of a (rare) clean joke told by the late great George Melly about passing through customs on his way into Oz.

"...I gave my passport to the lovely young man on the immigration desk and he asked me "Mr. Melly, do you have a criminal record". I replied, "dear chap, I wasn't aware that I still needed one to enter Australia"

Why are you pontificating to me?

Not sure if the irony of your views is apparent to yourself.

That has been doing the rounds for years. Gillard is a Labour prime minister and did not say this, but it fits a stereotype of aussies so people believe it. australia has immigration issues, i should know i am one, but no politian here would say stuff like that. Why spoil a good story with the truth.

Actually the English stole it. Nothing to do with the Australians.

History not your strong point?

This is the lamest excuse to excuse oneself from any blame and guilt. We really need to accept some responsibility for what happened.
