Marina Hyde's on absolute fire with this IMHO
How many nurses' salaries does it take to redecorate Downing Street?
It’s the standard unit of measurement for top football signings – and can be usefully applied to political expenditure too

With the hardship I know of so many people in last year I have considered during this time financially all those working for public services including nurses have a lot to be thankful for in that income and jobs not effected
Just a standard daily government disaster, of course its indefensible but they will attempt to defend it, grudgingly change their minds and go up another 2% in the polls.
a) £22 billion for a track & trace system that doesn't work, straight into the pockets of a consultancy run by chums of the people in government.
That's £22,000,000,000
b) Nurses after a year of being at the Covid coal-face: 1% and a patronising clap. "Well we're not made of money"
And yet this government still leads easily in the polls. I am genuinely not sure how bad this government needs to get before people wake up to what is going on.
.The NHS Nursing Support Fund gives an additional £3,000 per year to eligible students, including:
Specialist disciplines such as mental health nursing which struggle to recruit
Those needing additional childcare support, on top of the £1,000 already available
In areas of the country that have seen a decrease in student applications
Depending on your situation, you could receive up to £8,000 per year in support – which you won’t have to pay back. The money can help towards any living expenses needed throughout the year.
Will nursing students still have access to other financial support?
Students will still have to pay tuition fees of £9,250 per year, though they will still have access to tuition and maintenance loans from Student Finance.
So I guess like any student there’s help out there [emoji106]
.
Still have to fund it though. I’m not sure they’ll be many takers after today’s announcement. Going slightly in a different direction.
I’ve seen first hand what effect it has on someone working on the NHS, and to be fair it’s not about the money for her.
As you say, nurses do it for the love, and then the money.
I know 4 nurses, they all have money to burn and they are also all on very good pensions.
Not many people have those benefits at the moment.
Unions are just stirring it again, no surprise there.
Labour are using aggressive fighting words to spread more hate, with the its 'like being kicked in the face' as spewed out of the ineffective Ashworth.
I suppose they are getting desperate about their poll ratings.
All students fund their degree, this one appears to have a job guarantee?[/
Which was my point who wants a job and not feel rewarded. And have to pay for the privilege.
Yes.
..... and of course many of those nurses will be one half of a two wage-earning household, so the point about per household is irrelevant really.
Said every Tory always.
They've not even mentioned timing.
But as you've mentioned timing, IMHO the perfect timing would be the week after every eligible citizen has been offered their first dose of vaccine and has realised what an absolutely magnificent job the NHS has done throughout this crisis.
Spectacular own goal by the Tories right there. The U-Turn will be equally spectacular

Do you think they would have more support now or in 2/3 months time when we are hopefully out of this and people are back to work?
You're missing the point. The wage you get paid is for the job you do. It is not dependent on the number of children you have, or the number of people you are supporting in your household. Not really though is it, I was curious to see if you thought 34k was adequate for a single wage household. There many single wage households, mine included and I feel 34k is relatively low especially if you have a household with more than one child and even more so for the job in question.
Reckon they've EARNED way more support than the lifetime of this criminally-negligent government that has needlessly condemned to death massive numbers of our society's most vulnerable people earlydoors
