ASLEF are responsible for this years boxing day strike and last years too, not the RMT (for once). They want quadruple time for working public holidays apparently. I expect Bob Crow is thinking of ways he can out do them.
He's set the bar pretty high. He was recently threatening to ballot his...
The problem for him is that his scheme can only possibly make economic sense if it's linked to measures to create more train paths through South London. That's why he's come up with the idea of a tunnel under Canary Wharf to Stratford (which would cost billions). But even if this tunnel, or any...
He is now proposing a route that bypasses East Croydon (the main bottleneck) and shares a bit of track with the Croydon Tramlink, then tunnels under Canary Wharf and out somewhere near Stratford to address this problem.
It may seem a bit pie in the sky, but in the two decades since BR rail...
How will doubling the number of trains through Falmer (which is what he proposes), and opening up a whole raft of additional direct destinations hinder supperters?
I think the Daily Mash is on the money:
Best Nobel Peace Prize ever
THE Nobel Peace Prize has caused stroke-inducing rage from people who are an absolute joy to watch when they are angry.
The award to the European Union has caused thousands of people across Britain to mangle their index...
I don't think your figures stack up. 11,000 is also around 100 train coaches. Far more than past through Falmer station in any 35 minute period. You'd probably be looking at around 6 trains at Falmer in that time and an average length of 6 coaches, so 36 coaches. Even being generous and saying 8...
OK. I wasn't sure whether there was any park and ride as it wasn't mentioned here:

The concert finished at 10:30 so it's reasonable to assume the vast majority stayed until after the trains had stopped running.
I'd be...
How did people get home after the FBS concerts? There were no trains afterwards were there? Were the park and rides operating? I appreciate there were fewer people there than for a match but presumably the Falmer High School car park wasn't operational at that time?
We recently got an induction hob. When we first got it we had no pans that were induction compatable so we bought a cheap supposedly induction friendly pan from Robert Dyas. Couldn't get it to get anything to boil with it. Thought we had wasted our money on the hob, but I invested in some more...
If somebody had told me just two years ago that by the second season at Falmer we'd have around 23,000 season ticket holders and be expanding to 30,750 I'd have thought them a tad over-optimistic.
All this without any sort of campaign to attract new fans.
And though many people in Sussex may...
Barber's biggest challenge will be to drive up commercial revenue streams when we get to the premier league. The biggest potential earners are stadium naming rights, shirt sponsorship and kit supplier deals. Match day revenue from food is a side issue by comparison.
Our home league record from 74/75 to 78/79 was bloody awesome. 82 wins and just 8 defeats in 5 seasons. 246 goals in 111 games. For every defeat we notched up ten wins. Even allowing for rose tinted specs it was clearly a really special time.
I think the overall standard is much better now...
But as far as the academy application is concerned isn't the next stage development simply what is required to upgrade it from a category 2 facility into a category 1 facility? Nothing to do with any houses. Have they misunderstood this? Where have they got this idea of 1200 houses from?
A lot of their unhappiness seems to stem from their belief that the academy is the thin end of the wedge and will lead to further development of the gap:
"Having set a precedent of allowing development of the Strategic Gap, the next stage will be a massive development of up to 1,200 house...
Got the 6:24 from Hove to Brighton with Herr Tubthumper (we couldn't get on the first train as it was packed) and arrived in Brighton just before 6:30. A train appeared to arrive from London at the same time so there was a large volume of people heading for the exits.
We couldn't get onto the...
I'd be disappinted too. The only reason they'd do this is to make life easier for themselves, not their customers. I can't see it working very well on a practical level as the lounges are two floors apart so the stair wells will be chaotic at the start and end of each half. Plus I think it will...
