I just got the train from Clock House in Beckenham for a meeting in the city and Amelia Fletcher (Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, Tender Trap) etc was there at the station. We chatted a wee bit and I felt a bit tongue-tied, but what a bloody coincidence! She was only there cos she'd missed her stop.
I wish I wasn't at work so I could post more, but yes, Turn it Up was excellent. I won several prizes from the weekly quizzes, mainly gig tickets and the like, but I won a signed Primitives 7" once and a signed Darling Buds one too.
I used to present a weekly games slot on Festival Radio with...
I could listen and watch these older clips all day long (and frequently have), but here are some newer gems that might just tickle some of your fancies.
Utterly gorgeous dreamy pop that any Sarah Records fan will surely adore: The Proctors - Perfect World
Gold-Bears - All Those Years (2...
I think I saw the Soup Dragons twice in Brighton (Escape and Concorde) and both times they were fantastic. This was when they were playing Whole Wide World, Head Gone Astray, Hang Ten and others. When they went all 'baggy' and declared "There's always been a dance element to our music"...
The Clouds - "Get Out Of My Dreams" is an all time classic, but I think this is even better:
(Play loud as it's taken from a flexi disc.)
For a band who didn't release much, they had some mighty (mighty) tunes.
Oh yes, Hobbes Fanclub are effin' brilliant. I think 'Outside Myself' was my most played song in 2011. Frontman Leon is a massive Bradford City fan and a lovely bloke too.
Oh, OK, if you insist :o)
They were without doubt the very worst band I saw last year. Utterly charmless and without an original idea between them, amply illustrated by their woeful version of Bowie’s “Boys Keep Swinging” as their second song.
They were also rude and ungracious, and once they...
A lot of my current favourites are playing at this - what a line-up, and there are still 5 acts to be announced:
I shall doubtless be the oldest person there, but it'll be worth it.
Art is Hard is a great label and well worth supporting - http://artishardrecords.bandcamp.com/
It was indeed me. I'm always chuntering on, uninvited, about bands I love.
It's amazing how many exciting new bands are based in Brighton at the moment; as well as Jo Gru, you've got King of Cats (who perform as an acoustic alt. soloist sometimes, or as a noisy lo-fi emo band at other times...
The small Church stage has produced some brilliant performances over the years.
The Sock Puppets captured a lot of hearts two years ago:
And thrashy-poppers Joanna Gruesome tore it up last year (they're partially Brighton based and play in town quite often - well worth checking out).
Yes, there is a massive selection of ales and ciders, with cans of lager and other fizzy stuff too.

The Darling Buds played at the Richmond and I ended up going to the All Night Diner with Rob 14 Iced Bear and Andrea and Harley from the band. She was utterly gorgeous and I kept swooning as she giggled over the romato ketchup.
They reformed a year or two ago for a couple of gigs - "bit of a...
The June Brides played last year’s Indietracks and put on a pretty good show to be fair (I’m not really a fan of bands reforming to play their ‘hits’). Jasmine Minks and 14 Iced Bears played too amongst dozens of wonderful newer bands).
I saw some great bands at The Basement back in the 80s...
Anybody on here going to Indietracks this year? This is my favourite annual festival and there’s a cracking line up this year:
Particularly excited to be finally getting to see Helen Love, and The Pastels again after all these years, but there are so many fantastic bands lower down the bill...
You're all going to this, aren't you?
The Fireworks are just awesome - for fans of that wonderful Shop Assistants, early J&MC, fuzzy C86 sound. I've seen 'em a few times and they just keep getting better and better.
