There is absolutely no way PB would say in an interview "Yes, we really desperately need a new striker (or two), and we'll pay whatever it takes". What would be the point? Really not taking his words seriously or feeling disheartened.
Makes sense to say that on the radio/publicly; easier to play poker with selling clubs if they think we have other options and are only trying to bring 1 in.
