Gross had a relegation clause in his contract from memory so when Ingolstadt went down, he could leave for only £3 million (or something like that). Given he had created the most chances in the Bundesliga the previous season, I imagine he would have cost significantly more without the clause.
Stats like that illustrate how ridiculous the English market is (although I realise Gross would have cost more without that relegation clause in his contract)
It was always going to happen at some point. Ignoring the history with us, I'm nervous that a big game for us is likely to be ruined by such a terrible referee. Even without the Stephens decision, he is one of the worst referees in the Premier League and is very likely to get a big decision...
It is a matter of opinion, but to say Kuszczak looks superior to him is ridiculous to me.
As for our defence learning to cope with him, have you thought it might be them developing a better understanding, as happens naturally when players play together more? Ryan has been very good since the...
If you seriously think Ryan is our weakest link at the moment, then I don't know what to say. What exactly did he do yesterday to make you say that? What has he done wrong since the first couple of games?
I would be delighted with that. Would leave us with 19 points from 15 games so in a good position having not played against Huddersfield, Tottenham, Burnley or Chelsea.
Ryan 6 - No chance with the goal but not much to do either
Bruno 6 - Solid enough but not so effective going forward as usual
Dunk 7 - Very solid. Dealt well with Southampton's forward line
Duffy 7 - Similar to Dunk
Bong 5 - Struggled in my view. He had a good game against West Ham and deserved...
I really rate Kayal but there is absolutely no way he will get in the team ahead of Propper. Both Stephens and Propper broke up play well yesterday and Propper's range of passing is brilliant. He and Stephens have different roles but he more than plays his part in the team (an example being a...
Agreed. I also think we have a tougher second half of the season to come as four of the top six come to the Amex (United, Chelsea, Spurs and Arsenal), whereas only two do in the first half of the season. Logically that means we have two less home games against teams who aren't in the big six...
Agree re Skalak. Hemed may be down to what happens for the next few months. If Murray plays like he did on Friday more often, Hemed may find himself on the bench with the prospect of another striker coming in January. He may decide he'd rather wait until the end of the season to decide on what...
It is interesting going back over some of the early posts on this thread. While the OP should be embarrassed and, as far as I can see, has not admitted how wrong they were, there are plenty of others who look stupid too. One poster even claimed that Ryan looked like the club's worst signing ever...
I think the issue is we have only one target up front so there is a limit to what Ryan can aim for. Maybe the club feel by pushing Murray/Hemed out wide at goal kicks it either takes one of the centre backs out of position or leaves them against a full back. Agree that it isn't quite working yet...
To be fair, I think it is a tactic to kick it out rather than pass. And also to kick it out to the wings which leaves less room for error than normal for a keeper.
Indeed. If we do stay up, I can't help but feel it will be on the last game of the season waiting for other results while we lose at Liverpool. It is the way we do things. We won't win four in a row and stay comfortably clear of the bottom three all season (although I would love to be proved wrong)!
Indeed. To be fair though, I imagine pretty much the whole team who played on Friday have been written off at some point. Shows you how clueless some people are.
The only one who I have questioned in the team was Bong but he played really well on Friday. Great to have two good options competing...
Agreed. I think they will be okay in the end too sadly but it is really amusing while it lasts. Think they have West Ham home at the weekend. Should be a real classic!
If you look at the player stats under 'Big chances missed', Benteke tops that list which explains part of Palace's issue. How much did he cost them again?
I just saw that too and then turned on to here where he has been sacked.
Hardly a surprising decision. Everton were pretty dreadful against us and lucky that Bruno effectively gave them a point. Will be interesting to see who they appoint.
