Not sure how there could be any snow/sleet around tonight - atmosphere is way too warm (by at least 6 or 7C). Could have been graupel or something - saw some reports of that and hail up north.
(As measured at Herstmonceux at midnight, the 2nd and 3rd columns show height and temperature)...
Sounds like a pretty accurate description I think (unlike his forecasts). Saying that however, I was talking about this at work a while ago (a building full of weathermen) and people did see the appeal of the easy moneymaking scheme over the hard slog of doing actual research/forecasting.
As...
The Express always quotes a "forecaster" who has a somewhat questionable background according to this from the Guardian http://www.theguardian.com/environment/georgemonbiot/2012/jun/15/daily-express-weather-forecast-jonathan-powell
Not sure about Canada, but it's only on BeinSport's online player thing in the US (same as the Wigan game). This worked fine for me last weekend http://www.coolsport.tv/schedule.html
Is it supposed to be a secret that the US have done this? I remember learning about it during college http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Popeye Pretty simple, raindrops need something to grow on, so if you put something into a cloud that can act as a seed, it might help it rain.

Massively devastating, particularly as the infrastructure/places to escape don't exist despite the forecasts predicting the storm. Does look like another storm will head through in the next few days, although it looks nothing like this one.
One thing though, it's not the deadliest cyclone ever...
(Sorry for the thin lines but) The vertical black line splits the ball down the centre. The horizontal black line shows the same distance either side of the centre, and matches well with where the edge of the ball is. The black line along the goal line is a conservative estimate of where the...
The timing of all this is still pretty uncertain - as well as the actual strength. Each of the computer models has a storm, but widely differing impacts. ECMWF is the most consistent, and most threatening.
Not worth giving it a go - I've noticed they've been a lot stricter in the past few months (since everything in Boston), and whereas I would maybe see one person in a line get called aside for extra questioning, the 2 times since April it's been more like 1 in 6. You don't want to give them the...
Hot weather normally means no rain and light winds. Pollution would soak into the rain/moisture and get taken out of the atmosphere as it falls, or the winds would blow it away/mix it in with cleaner air - either case would lower the pollutant concentration in the area.
