Maybe the Americans got this right afterall

Classic error a lot of the press make in reporting it. It's a 2.5% POINT increase rather than a 2.5% increase. It's just laziness in reporting or saying it. Great to catch people out with that difference as it can often make a lot of difference.

The Brighton/Sussex +£4 a Pint Thread of Shame

I'm just curious as to what people think should be 'the' price for a pint of beer. It's the same with petrol as that is rising considerably at the moment.

The Brighton/Sussex +£4 a Pint Thread of Shame

So if £4 is too expensive for a pint of beer, what should the price be? £1.50? £2? £3?

If a football club's fans behave like these RUDDY students (Merged)

Violence is never the answer in protests. The only reason it becomes big news is because of the violence and then the credibility of the cause reduces. Students should be rightly annoyed at the proposed increase. I agree that students should pay more because there is a funding gap in University...

    police in brighton city centre

Slightly ironic that the protesters are annoyed that businesses are not paying what they feel is their 'fair' share of tax, yet their protest leads to thousands of pounds of taxpayers money needed to police the streets. (Yes the figures aren't comparable, but the protesting in that fashion isn't...

The Strauss-Ponting bust-up at the end of play.....

Botham does get annoying commentating. Generally though, Sky have a good mix of different types of commentators. Mark Nicholas is a good presenter and commentator, shame he doesn't commentate in England much nowadays.

FAO: Anyone who wishes to show their support to students...

Please don't group all students into one entity. The ones causing the damage, I suspect, are the same people who would cause damage regardless of what the protest was about. Fees should increase, but not three-fold in one foul swoop.

Yeah that would be great. Create an ice-rink in the middle of Brighton for everyone to slip around on. Marvellous thinking.

FAO: Anyone who wishes to show their support to students...

Having just finished university, I'm rather happy that the fees didn't go up to £9k when I was considering applying. If they had, I wouldn't have gone to university (or at least would have had to have been greatly persuaded to do it). I just finished with a First in Economics, so arguably I am...

    Rugby at Falmer/Amex

I would LOVE it purely because it would be so close But it would tear the pitch up and I couldn't see a big club taking up any opportunity if it were offered.

    Favourite beer?

Is that the 5.9% abv one? If so, it's a very nice beer and quite deceptive being very clear.
