Just go to Wetherspoons. Went to the one in Huddersfield yesterday and £3.60 for 2 pints. Bargain.
Brighton city centre has always been a rip off for beer anyway.

Over £4 a pint in Brighton! Last time i was in Worthing i paid £3.60 for a Kronenbourg in the Hare and Hounds and thought that was pricey.

Makes Helsinki not sound so bad at 5 euros a pint.

'Spoons are ok as a make-do type of pub on an away trip, and the prices are brillo (they also sell pint-bottles of Efes for about £3 a pop, which is BRILLIANT), but its hardly the kind of place I'd want to be a "regular" at. Full of OAP's and pissheads who've been there since 10am.

Why should the pubs be shamed for increasing prices due to the VAT increase? What do you expect them to do absorb the costs so you can afford an extra shandy and end up going out of business?

Typical ignorant attitude in this country.

If you would have read the posts instead of ignorantly typing a quick reply, you will note the topic is 'thread of shame'. No blame was being attached to whether it's the pub's, breweries, or governments fault as to the price of a pint in a pub. I think everyone should be alarmed at £4+ for a pint, it's getting close to an hours minimum wage work for a single jar in your local. It's not right, and it's definitely contributing to the whole binge culture of getting ratted from cheap booze at the off license / supermarket before going out. The ignorant attitude I'm afraid is all yours!

the day you see people protesting outside giant tescos or savacentres and handing out leaflets to people with cases of 24 carling for a tenner to sit at home and guzzle, will be the day i believe people in this country give a monkeys about letting one of our greatest institutions disappear. until then plenty more extra crap 1 bedroom flats in converted former pubs for sale. blinder.

In my local in Worthing I have yet to part with more than £3 for a pint (varies across Harveys, Bombardier, 6X, Greene King, etc). In there on Friday evening drinking 6X at £2.60 a pint. However, certain other pubs - namely the Charles Dickens - are around the £4 a pint mark for these same or similar beers.

Thanks Greens :(
I was quaffing £1.49 a pint Ruddles in Lloyds No.1 at The Marina on Saturday night. Loads of other comparatively cheap ales and lagers. Not a seat to be had in the place, nice view over the boats and totty aplenty

That’s still reasonable compared to what you pay in New York. $8 (about £5.40 at current exchange rate) and more is not uncommon in mid-town bars and remember the US pint is smaller.

Last time I went in the Hare and Hounds I bought a pint for myself and a glass of wine for my other half.I did this three times and got charged three different prices and ended up paying about £23.

Went to the Three Fishes(Wetherspoons)for that money I could get Four pints and two bottles of wine,or one bottle of wine and about seven pints.
It was then I decided not to bother with certain pubs anymore because I always come out feeling ripped off.
Wetherspoons may not be everybodys cup of tea but for me and many others there really is no option.

I used to have a real hatred of Wetherspoons for no real reason other than the stereo typical image of oap's and all day piss heads to which some extent is justified. However after a few years i've relised they are not all that bad Cheap beer and food all of a good standard. I agree with Easy 10 also they are not the sort of place you would have as a local either but as town centre pubs go they aren't half bad but i would avoid them on a weekend eve if you just want a quiet beer or two. Plus the way pubs are going they might be the only place you can get a beer soon.

Also whilst on the subject of extortinate beer prices in Brighton, why is Brighton only seemingly second to London in the price per pint league - Is Brighton really that more expensive to run a pub in than say Leeds? Now Leeds can be dear but to hit over £4 for a Carling that's ridculous. I do think pubs/landlords try it on a bit in Brighton. I'm lucky in the fact that my local in Huddersfield is a half decent pub and is £2.60 for a Carling or £3 for a Kronenbourg. Ale still be under £2.20 a pint depending what your having.
Even when i'm back in Worthing if you avoid certain pubs Hare and Hounds\Wheatsheaf the prices aren't that bad.

In 2009, Carlsberg was the equivalent of £5.60 a pint in Copenhagen, dread to think what it is now.

Over a tenner for 20 fags and a pint...By the time this government clears up the mess that the other lot dropped us in, by years of mismanagement, they will be voted out and the other lot will be back in again. We are all going to hell in a handcart.

Companies charge what they can get away with. Obviously no one kicks up a big enough fuss down here or stops going to pubs where the price is high.

I used to work opposite the Nelson about 8-9 years ago and back then i thought the place was expensive and i could never work out why but it would be rammed - wonder if it still is as i reckon a pint in there must be £4 now.

i was paying $8 for a bottle of bud light around spring street, plus the dollar you have to give the plonker behind the bar, it's crazy expensive.

ended up drinking $2 cans of PBR in williamsburg but i hear it's crazy expensive there aswell now.
