I think I need to do a euphoric melancholic mix for the weekend now. Pretty sure Pevenseagull did a thread on this about a year ago. Could have the two Interpol tracks and the Slowdive song mentioned above, plus probably bung in When The Sun Hits by Slowdive for good measure, You Never Should by...
Ha ha! Well, you live and learn, I suppose. I'm next seeing Slowdive at the End of the Road festival, which has a pretty decent line up and I'm looking forward to introducing the kids to the magic of the band, although they may be embarrassed to see dad's moist eyes as the music takes control.
I'm fairly predictable - anything that combines euphoria and melancholy, from pop to indie to electronica and beyond, floats my boat the most. I remember buying the PDA single, not having heard it, and obtaining sustenance from the last three minutes for weeks.
It's a peach. I could just listen to the first minute or so of the first song on repeat for an hour and I would be in pieces; probably best to listen to the whole thing, to be honest, but it's chiming, beguiling, loud, quiet, beautiful, sad and joyous. A keeper.
Well, you'd think so - so if they are losing some of that core vote (which anecdotal evidence seems to suggest, but we'll have to wait and see), something has gone very wrong and they need to do something about it or we'll be stuck with the same party in power for the next ten years.
There's no doubt that the Labour party is in a mess. I won't be voting for them, but I do think it's a shame that people are dismissing these policies out of hand as fantasy - we do have levers to raise money through taxation: an extra penny or two in tax for those earning more than £80k would...
Although, strangely, Duffy doesn't make the Championship Best XI for the season alongside Dunk, despite having a higher score than M Roberts. Maybe they're assuming that they play in the same position?
Just about to pop out to get a macaroni cheese for lunch and my boss asked me to do something, so I'm going to be eating about 15 minutes later than I had planned.
Don't want to show off TOO much, but I went to two different universities - had a great time at one, the second one not so much. I've been accused of loving my first degree.
This is subtly different - less anchored in the sound of the day. They pretty much followed an arc of noisy, ethereal (1st three EPs plus disappointingly bland 1st LP) to poppy/dubby/melancholic galaxies of wispy heartbreak (2nd album) to fascinating dubby/repetitive/guitar-led ambience (3rd...
You never know - what with us being on the gravy train now. Really not sure whether this is the beginning of a new era, the beginning of the end, or a brief encounter. Still, it's nice not to know - we watch football for the uncertainty, I think, and when it goes our way for once, we take it and...
Very sorry to hear that Staly. There's a thread full of tributes to people who didn't make it to see this day; it's quite moving, lots of brothers, mums and dads, lots of memories. I suppose it makes you think about enjoying things while you can. My gran didn't live to see it. She was a fair...
