No way are these places allowing mass tourism any time soon imo. Some sort of 'I'm safe passport' would allow travel to open up but that relies on countries/governments agreeing how to implement.
Of course tourism is a big economic driver for many countries but the impact of going through...
I get a feeling that Oz and NZ could be in a position to make it 'vanish'. They are definitely on the right track and it will likely depend on their resolve when numbers get really low
FWIW it appears that Greenland have made it 'vanish' but perhaps not the best place to try and escape to!!
Cases were getting into full swing in Italy by the end of Feb. We know and knew deaths lagged and the growth of cases should have sent warning signals. Not a full scale lockdown of course but to allow people to still go off skiing in the Italian resorts and unencumbered travel to and from Milan...
I agree ... using 'January' as the reference point isn't entirely reasonable. Once the thing took hold in Lombardy in mid February I believe it was clear what was about to be unleashed, but we still didn't mobilise for another 4 or more weeks. So for some it might be hindsight but for many not
True, but still a godawful high number. My fear is that when we start to see a sustained drop off in numbers people (maybe even the Gov't) will think we've broken the back, life can get back to normal.
If it's difficult to control behaviours when the numbers are rising how on earth is it done...
Not so sure ... after mixed recycling and food waste we put virtually nothing in our general rubbish. Just looked and after a week there's a couple of pieces of non recyclable plastic, the contents of Mrs vacuum and a few assorted wrappers.
I totally agree the well wishes to bin men (and...
They should pick up the general rubbish bins less frequently. They still pick up here every week when, with huge mixed recycle bins and food waste bins, every 3/4 weeks would be more than adequate.
It would also encourage more recycle ... but that's too easy for local gov't to grasp
It's the one thing that really irks ....there is no need and if people want to return then they should be prepared to and forced to quarantine
I suspect you are correct and those feeling invincible (which will be the majority of working population) will 'demand' it as well as the need for the...
My stepson lives in Stockholm and I am sad to agree that many there don't seem to get it. It's as if the Easter 'celebrations' (unsure why so significant) are far more important than absolutely anything else and a right that needs to be observed
I really don't get why we can't follow the example of Oz, NZ, S Korea and others and I'm not sure there is a major economic impact by doing so. These are generally citizens returning from wherever they are. Although 14 days cooped up in a hotel room is pretty unpleasant people do have a choice...
We should do what Oz and NZ have done .... anyone coming in 14 days quarantine. Until that happens we never get rid of it. A small but significant move imo
It's not rocket science is it? Yet there are still scores of flights arriving with people that are simply walking out of the airport and into society. We should have been putting them into quarantine in the airport hotels weeks ago (Oz and NZ amongst others are doing that). Until and unless we...
If, as they claim, 80% of 'us' are going to get it how many deaths does that produce? I guess it depends on what 'us' means but using the entire population doesn't seem a bad place to start
I'm not sure what the current view on mortality rates is but I assume the total is a sodding great number
