Update. Having whinged about missing selection for the England very old gits 10k team by 1 second, it appears I was wrong. They select on gun time and thus I have been selected ( Chester 10k, 2023).
Pleased the hammy behaved itself and an SB is not to be sniffed at. Littlehampton for me (their 100th). Good conditions and a big turnout of 300: 20.58/81.48% which was the best one of the day. Set out to run sub 21 so job done.
I noticed both of the useless specimens contesting the Tory leadership are pretty thin on the details of leveraging the so-called Brexit opportunities. Perhaps Rees Mogg is keeping them up his sleeve?
Nothing definitive. I dipped into
various YouTube sites. The consensus seemed to be that strengthening is more effective than stretching. I think you have to shop around to find something that works for you. But the speed work will always be a potential problem. Might be a good time to
rebuild...
Sounds like a classic hammy injury. If it makes you feel a tiny bit better there's more chance of me sleeping with the entire Swedish womens football team than hitting a 5.30 pace.
Indeed!
I chatted to JO after the Hove Prom run. (I was leading him at the 1st K, BTW.)Last year he represented England in the half marathon masters at Tenby. He won, of course! So I think he knows the set up. Nice bloke, isn't he?
Fair point, Ted. Any runner taking part in the masters qualification was meant to wear something pinned on the back of their vest stating their age category. The guy who I narrowly beat wasn't wearing one so I only picked up that he was a vet as I closed him down. Arguably had he been wearing...
Ah, there's a reason. The Wrexham race was one of 4 qualifying races for a place in the England masters 10k squad in 2023. I thought I might have a slim chance depending on who else turned up: a top 3 placing guaranteed selection. The category was 65+. I managed 5th in the 65-69 category but 2...
Wrexham 10k: 43.17 which for me was a decent time but only good enough for 5th very old git.
A good course and a very high quality field. Suspect it wasn't the brightest thing to do to run a fast 5k yesterday.
Good to see the Gaffer at Hove Prom today even if he was a non combatant. Hope the hammy mends quickly, although they can be buggers. Anyway despite the heckling from the luxury of a beach hut ("go back to Worthing!") and being smoked by the resident old git maestro, an SB of 20.30 @83.33%, my...
Brilliant run from Jake W. Mind you he might be the best in the world but many would still rate being the record holder at Worthing parkrun his greatest achievement!
10k at Dunsfold aerodrome yesterday. Bit of an injury risk after a parkrun and with a dodgy calf but got away with it. It was all a bit naff. There was no atmosphere at all and a poor turnout across the 3 events being run. The 10k kicked off 20 minutes late with the runners awaiting a starter in...
Well done for those who had a crack at the Roundhill Romp. There's a Worthing Harrier, Steve Cousins, who has the brand Film My Run, uploads the West Sussex
Fun Run League events (and other stuff) on You Tube. Worth checking out.
Worthing PR with a cramping calf in 20.01 today. Have a 10k in...
On the issue of personal rivalries, I saw a guy in the warm up who beat me (quite easily) last week in Worthing: I was running for 2nd place at best. Stuck with him for 2k and then he just eased away from me to beat me by a decent margin. At the end I went up to him to congratulate him...
