I agree with this, It was nauseous to watch, but it was necessary in the circumstances. I can't help thinking that he might have a little vomit when he gets back on the plane, but he knows he has played the right hand. He couldn't confront Trump and say what he felt because it would have made it worse.
Sir Steer Calmer.

Can you imaging Boris the Liar in that scenario?
Attempting to interrupt, and having to apologise like a schoolboy caught thieving tuck,
Then leaving after Trump, bent forward, reaching for a ring-piece kiss?

Starmer may be dull, but who needs a galloping jackass?

As for Badenough

Anyway, it could have been shit, and tomorrow is another day.
And....exhale.

Calling the argument “soooo wrong”, Trump wrote: “The tariffs will drive massive amounts of auto manufacturing to MICHIGAN, a State which I just easily one [sic] in the Presidential Election,” he wrote.

What a plum.

Starmer seems to have played an absolute blinder today.

Did exactly what he had to do - suck up and play to Trump's ginormous ego at every opportunity.

Pushed away the Andrew Tate and Canada questions and played everything else with a straight bat.

Trump being Trump, had it been less harmonious behind the scenes, he would absolutely have said so, and let everyone know he was the big man in charge calling the shots.

Crossing my fingers for Zelenskyy tomorrow.
Great job by Sir Kier.

Donald was almost charming in the press conference.

I think those Tate brothers have offered him hidden minerals under Luton’s ground. That or he think he has a chance with Starmer’s wife.

Fair play and respect to Starmer, he could not have done better. But judging by the headlines this morning, Trump has suddenly become a good guy and Britain is his best friend.

He has not and we are not. Trump is playing a game to which no one but he knows the rules but Trump is determined to be the only winner.

Beware.

Judging by the headlines, the Express has done the heavy lifting for BadEnoch and Farage and found a narrative for them to push.

It woz Brexit that got us the deal, not Starmer!

To be fair, clutching at straws though it may seem, without Brexit any unilateral deal would have been impossible.

I think Starmer knows how to play him. I guess all those years in the legal world develops this part of one’s character.

Thunder Bolt

Silly old bat
That’s an understatement :D

Will be interesting to see if the Mayor gives permission to fly the baby blimp this time.
According to the front page of the Telegraph, as illustrated on the BBC website, the invitation is to Balmoral.

100% right. But then we wouldn’t need a deal if we were still in the EU!

But the story is clearly the statementship Starmer showed and the clear progress he has made in pushing the UK agenda. At the top of that list has to be support for Ukraine.

Starmer could easily have come across as an appeaser or could have antagonised Trump.

I think a positive of this is how Starmer, Macron, Zelensky and perhaps Trudeau have played this. Clearly working together, having their 'lines to take' aligned, focusing on giving reasons for not abandoning Zelensky.

The chagos islands is a happy coincidence and whilst not the main point of the conversation, it shows some progress.also interesting that starmer referred to an economic deal rather than a trade one. Which of course could have been done within the eu.

That Starmer chose to pick his battle with Vance (over freedom of speech) was also,I think, a positive as Trump likes the idea of those beneath him getting heat. That will annoy Musk to a degree too.

In summary, it could have gone an awful lot worse and here's hoping Zelensky gets a decent hearing and outcome today because this, after all, is why all the nauseating stuff is being done.
