He said in 2023 that if Labour were in power they would freeze council tax for that year. Not this year, or for the future.

No party would say they would halt council tax rises for future years, and no party has.

You're reaching now. If that's the way it's done then vote for me, if I was in power this year I'd build 5 million houses but can't say how many I will build next year if I'm elected.

Financial times change year-on-year, and judgements and promises applying to one year wouldn't be expected to apply to future years under different financial conditions. After all - Jeremy Hunt took 2% of NI, which reduced the tax take. How do you make that back up again.

If you said in 2023 "I'm going to buy a season ticket this year", and then you couldn't because one wasn't available. And then in 2024 you find you cannot afford to do so for that year - would you say you have broken your promise? No, of course you wouldn't.

I'm not particular interested in what politicians say they are going to do in the future, more what they are doing now.

All politicians lie about the future.

The reason I'm so glad the Tories are out is that (like Trump) lied about the present on a daily basis.

Particularly when about half of councils are on the verge of bankruptcy. Not that certain of our posters will recognise that.

It is fairly simple; what a politician promises for 2023 only cannot be held against them when they don't do it in 2025. Circumstances change.

There's a simple question that needs to answered, albeit in a complex way.

The UK is running a huge deficit so... do we ?

A) Raise taxes
B) Cut spending
C) Both
D) Kick it down the line like successive governments always have for the next generation to worry about

All other talk is just political waffle. But I guess that covers all parties.

Maybe part of the solution is those in charge working together for the betterment of the county. But I must be a loon to think that.

Councils in the UK cannot go Bankrupt but you knew that didn’t you, since the last Labour Government 11 councils issued section 114 notices (Media call this bankruptcy) all in 2023 or before

Out of interest you described half the UK councils on the verge of submission of a 114 notice ( apparently there are 317 Councils in the UK), do you have a list or link to these?

When Starmer made those promises it was based on his policy of a windfall tax on energy companies…that was how he would pay for freezing council tax once in power with an imaginary £10billion from the windfall tax. If I remember rightly my electricity bill will be going down £300 as well.
