[Albion] No Veltman, no party

Indeed. Also Veltman once played left back and was a disaster, at fault for two goals and I believe was sent off at home to Everton(?), I think. Never played there again in his career, very probably at his insistence.

Always find it fascinating how in theory you’re just doing the same thing but on the other side of the pitch?
Its so complicated to play when your opponent know you will never go on the outside. Inverted wingers have a better time as they can go inside and either win the duel or score a goal. But as full/wingback, its dangerous to carry the ball into midfield unless you're really good at it.

Going on the outside with your non-natural foot feels bad because you play against both the sideline and the opponent. You usually need your most sensitive foot to be able to make that run or pass on the outside.

Its tough. And while you defensively get the advantage of facing (in our time usually inverted) wingers with your best foot, its often not worth it since you'll most often duel their own wing back anyway. And trying to take the ball off Trent Alexander-Arnold with your best foot is difficult enough.

Veltman certainly doesn't strike me like someone who should play there. But then again the squad maybe hasn't been flooded with left back usually.
