He isn't that great going forward, but contributed a great passage of play to that chance when Minteh went through and crossed, which was just missed by Ayari (amazing run) and Mitoma
It’s not his job to be that great going forward. He’s a defender. Perhaps if he had a regular partner on the wide right they’d start to combine as well as Pervinho and Mitoma can when they’re on it.

When he has the right attacker in front of him, I think he links well, with good interplay down the right and has contributed regularly with decent crosses into the box.

He made it.
I'd be interested in when you think he last lost or wasted the ball going forward?
He doesn't catch the eye going forward like Tariq. But he's efficient& positive, at worst. & can actually defend, which is their job.
The defence is transformed when JV plays & that affects the whole team.
Without him & Welbeck we're no team at all. Just kids with possibilities

Exactly this. Pedro worked so hard today but he had to. Without Welbeck we lack a focal point up front.

Outstandingly my favourite player of our PL era. He is a brilliant defender and regularly takes the pressure of the defence by drawing fouls. He is also so likable as he smiles and casually practices the dark arts of pissing off wingers.

He really didn't make it, he was on about the half way line. Minteh did that.
I'm only making the point that he doesn't offer much going forward. I know you won't agree, but it's so obvious.
He does offer defensive solidity, game intelligence and reads the daft oppo players like a book but if you really think he's stunning going forward, perhaps you can share with us the number of goals and assists he's got with us in the PL, alongside the number of appearances.

Exactly.
Quietly, ruthlessly & professionally makes us significantly better in every single game he plays & does the same to the players around him. I don't remember a player, even Groß being such a miss when he's out

Nice try. How you getting on with those assists/goals stats. Mind you, you do have a blind spot about one or two things that are blindingly obvious.

Did I say "stunning"?
I asked you to point out when he'd f***ed it up. He doesn't. He contributes efficiently going forward & brilliantly at the back.
& more importantly than either, improves the whole defence massively every single time he plays.
Watch us every time he doesn't, ffs

Brilliant today as he pretty much always is.Baleba was great and an obvious choice for mom but Joel was up there with him too.

No, you didn't say 'stunning'. Nor did I. What's your point?
And no, you didn't ask me to point out when he'd f***ed it up.
The other points are irrelevant because, largely, I agree.
