So Haigh is entitled to nearly £17k severance pay for 5 months ministerial service and resigning. Ridiculous rules at parliament for all.
Its pretty standard, there were lots of £17k's under the Tories.

But TBH, we've got more important things to worry about

So is it one phone or multiple ?, do you really get a conviction for fraud for reporting a phone as being stolen and then finding it again and would a company like Aviva really report an employee to the police if it was just that ?. Truth will come out at some stage.
It depends how you do it. If you lose your phone and claim it was stolen from your car when you left it unlocked, then no. (Apart from anything else, that could be put down to a mistake, as long as you don't repeat it.) But if you invent a fake mugging and report it to the police, then yes, you get (or ought to get) a conviction for fraud, and for wasting police time as well (though I think she got away with that one).

One thing to learn from watching Colombo, where the murderer tells such a complicated tale that they are bound to trip up. If lying is your thing, then keep your lies simple.

You probably need to be careful accusing her on a publicly accessible forum of inventing a fake mugging. Not sure that's been reported anywhere? - so is potentially libellous.

I had misunderstood that part of the story. I thought the whole thing was a lie, not just the phone theft. It appears there is no doubt that she was mugged. Thanks for the heads-up.

And for those of you worried about these things, here's some good news that I don't think got much coverage recently:

The anti-immigration offensive of Britain’s Labour government has seen a record number of deportations of asylum seekers since it came to power in July.

Home Office data reveals that 9,400 people have been deported to their home countries since then

And if you prefer your news from GBeebies, here you go:

I wonder what the views of the usual suspects on NSC are regarding the extraordinary success of the Labour Government with deportations?

Given that before the election almost anyone on this site who raised their head above the parapet on the subject was hounded back to the wordle and best song threads under accusations of xenophobia.

Now it turns out that literally the only thing the Labour Government has done successfully is deport people !

I was thinking the same, well played Labour for the apparent high volumes of ‘arrivals’ deported, absolute back of the net, let’s hope there wasn’t any healthcare professionals that were sent back😉

Net migration is at unsustainable levels.

One of the main reasons- if not the main reason- for the defection of Conservative voters in the election was that the conservatives were perceived as weak on immigration.

The Labour peers repeatedly blocked all Conservative immigration legislation.

It felt like most if not all NSCers were completely against deportation- although I accept it was a very vocal few.

Now the Labour Party is the party of deportation… I wonder what the usual suspects think, because by any standards 10,000 since the election is a huge number, especially for a Government that don’t seem to be able to put one foot in front of the other.

Are you really sure about that?

The Lords were mainly against legislation that was unlawful, rather than all legislation. And given the majority in the House of Commons, anything the Tories really wanted to get through they could have done - if they had voted for it themselves.

Today SKS announces his Government’s Plan for Change and the 5 missions become 6 pledges.

Polling guru Sir John Curtice has warned that Sir Keir’s government has “hit significant political trouble rather early on in its life”, adding that “the fundamental question is whether a politician who has shown so far absolutely no ability to construct a narrative can suddenly construct a narrative”.

“I presume part of the idea of ‘plan for change’ is that because all they had to say during the election was ‘change’ and that is all they campaigned on, they now have to be a bit more specific on what kind of change they have in mind – which was an obvious gap six months ago.”

I guess my perspective on that is that after 13 years of Governments making promise after promise after promise after promise and delivering on virtually nothing other than a botched version of Brexit, I don't have a real issue with any Government taking it's time to choose it's path. After all, it's difficult to know exactly how to fix a problem when you can't see how bad that actual is until you open the front door.

Regarding your earlier point on deportations, my issue was never that I was "against deportations", it was the cruel lack of coherent process that I had issue with. People sitting in camps, never being processed was a disgrace. I always argued that the last Governement had it in their best interests to NOT fix the issue, because it's the only thing that united their voters.

The wordle and best song threads are hotbeds of racism.

For me the debate often ended in an agreement that the best way foreword for asylum seekers was to proceess refugee applications, grant asylum to those deserving of it and deport those that were not.

My assumption is that these deportations are the result of the processing of applications.

Job done, hopefully labour will now work their way through the backlog and stop the overspend on housing asylum seekers.

Jobs a good un, it's not that hard if you are not trying to weaponsise the situations to get votes.

I don’t either, to a certain extent. My comments on the current Government are commentary not judgement. However it does feel exactly how Sir John Curtice has put it- similar to the views of some of us on here pre election- that they were simply for change and change alone but with no clear definition of what that would be.
