In our matchday programme they have siad there is a pub outside the ground is this advisable?

I was gonna suggest that, providing they allow it to open that day, the Sportsman is a pretty sound place. The rest of the week its a normal family pub, and the bouncers and police presence normally keep away any idiots. Never seen them turn away visiting supporters either.

If I were to attend our CRUNCH game In November and wanted to bring my 8 year old son is there likely to be a safe place to drink before the game? Not sure I will get a ticket yet so may have to watch down me local on the big screen.

To be perfectly honest, I would consider the safety of my 11 year old daughter far far far higher than a drink in a pub before an away match.

If you are that desparate for a drink before a football match then get buy a can or two on the train, or for when you park the car.

Maybe Mcdonalds sounds a safer bet. I saw quite a few young Brighton lads at your last visit to Selhurst so thought the same for my Boy. If you are not that welcoming i`ll leave him at home.

Its the fact that it is the one game that it could kick off anywhere due to the minority from each set of supporters looking for a scrap. I would not put my daughter at risk as an innocent bystander. The most likely place of this happening is a pub. I'm not saying he shouldn't attend the game at all, just is it sensible to go pub hunting beforehand

I would be tempted to get to the ground, watch the match then enjoy the Police escort out of the ground.

It is wrong, but every nut case who claims to follow Brighton will be out to cause trouble.

How about the ex Jarvis place on the London Road in Preston Village. I forget what it's called now.

The Brewery Tap allows kids in and is a decent pub.
It is actually recommended to away fans on the football ground guide.
There was a whole family of Sunderland supporters there before and after their game.

It's about 15 mins walk away on London Rd

It's Palace though Yorkie.....PALACE!!! They might well have some semi-decent people, but I'm afraid it's not a good idea for them to drink in the BT.

For this game there would be coppers on the door anyway

Whenever I've taken my kids to away games (my son's the same age as yours, CB), I've not taken them to a pub beforehand. I just see this as an unfortunately necessary precaution, as sometimes people with a few beers inside them get a bit gobby and I don't want my kids to think that's how to behave.

I've never had a problem walking around towns with the kids in colours, and have actually only had positive experiences of meeting the natives.

HOWEVER, sadly. this game is different to most, as there is bound to be a few idiots out looking for trouble. Remember that a pub in the centre of town got randomly targetted after the Leeds game last season.

My kids will be at the game, but it will probably be the only home game this season that I don't go to the pub first. It's only a 10 minute walk from my gaff, so I'll have a beer there instead.

Last season, there were no restrictions on entry to the Sportsman for any of the games, including Cardiff, Leeds and Millwall, and I didn't see or hear of any problems at all. If they let you in, I'd say it's probably the safest if you must have a beer first. In fact, it's often full of away supporters by 2pm and all the late arriving home fans have to queue outside!

The Harlequin behind !!!! London Road a warm welcome for all.

As long as you don't go wearing any of those awful colours, you'll be alright anywhere you go.

However.....if you want to don the shirts and scarves, then you may want to find a church - apparently you can confess your sins, and vicars won't usually give you a kicking.:rave: :thud: :cute:

Thanks for that. I have actually reconsidered it and will not take him along. For one he will have school the following morning and two it is too hostile. I may just stay and watch it on the box in the safety of my armchair. Thanks for all your advice and warm welcomes to your locals.
