Moscow has deported 500,000 people from Ukraine to Russia, the head of the Ukrainian parliament's humanitarian committee has told members of the European Parliament.
Mykyta Poturayev called on the Red Cross to establish contact with those missing.
"Half a million of Ukrainian citizens were deported from Ukraine to the Russian Federation without agreement from their side," he said.
"Unfortunately there is no opportunity for now even (to make) contact with these people," Poturayev told MEPs by video link.
It has not been possible to independently verify the figure given by Poturayev, who did not give details or supporting evidence.
The Ukrainian government this month said that children are being separated from their parents with a view to having them adopted by Russian families

This is the sort of news that upsets and angers me. Imagine having your children taken away and adopted to be raised by the enemy in Russia or in a lot of cases falling into the hands of sex traffickers, and the mothers are undoubtedly either being sent to work camps or sold onto human traffickers. It is heartbreaking. It makes me feel physically sick.

Agreed. What are we talking about here? The following is guesswork of course. But it would fit Putin's assertion that Ukraine should not exist.
Social engineering? A plan to rebalance the ethnic population in some areas? Attempts to populate sparsely populated areas in Siberia? Something worse?
Putin has already said "surrender or we will eliminate you". These cities have not surrendered, these people were captured. So I would expect that he is sending them to the far reaches of Russia to be exterminated in their thousands. Unimaginable suffering.
Equivalent to Hitler's attempted eradication of the Jews - except that instead of killing the children you remove them from their parents and bring them up (brainwash them) as something they are not.
Agreed. Putin is provoked by weakness not strength. We need to give that ****er a real kick up the arse soon.
