Superb program on R4 tonight. General Sir. Richard Sherriff putting forward a compelling argument for building up huge allied forces on the Easter flanks of the NATO border. Reasoning that Putin is not provoked by shows of force but by shows of weakness. He probes vulnerabilities and attacks where he finds little resistance.

Sorry it’s a screen grab, don’t know how to link to here.

You’d enjoy his book warning of war with Russia. Read it a few years ago. Thought provoking and now seems like he predicted all 6 numbers in the lottery. Why don’t the politicians listen to the experts like him?

…entering the hut full of unsuspecting Germans with the now legendary remark, cool as a cucumber and hundreds miles behind enemy lines…”Good evening…”, before blasting them all to death a few seconds later as they stared dumbfounded down the barrel of the stem gun.

Good old Paddy, he was like no other. Dirty business war, which is why Germany shouldn’t have started it if they weren’t prepared to meet the likes of him. Thank god he was on our side! RIP.

Paddy Mayne. One of my personal heroes. Some people are uncomfortable that people like him exist. They should be grateful. People like him win wars.

Thanks for the heads up. I shall get hold of that.

He reckons there’s a good chance if NATO had massed troops on NATO borders when Putin was poking the Ukrainian border, there’s a good chance he’d not have invaded.

Do you agree with shooting up German air crews in cold blood when it wasn't strictly necessary?
Personally, yes I do. They were part of the forces we were at war with. As you say, they would have gone on to kill us. I don't really see it as cold blood, they were the enemy. I don't see why they wouldn't be considered a fair target.

Just as the Russians on the Moskva were a fair target. I'm certainly glad it was sunk. I just don't sit here hoping they all burned for a while before drowning.

A good interview here with an example of who the Russians have sent to war:

Should we hope that young man burns alive?

Didn't we do all this a few days ago? Why the need to resurrect it all over?

Quite.

Let’s stick to the current events. The radio program I flagged up is interesting. And I found it informative. Strangely almost comforting knowing there is a guy with experience who seems to have Putin’s number. I hope he is being listened to.

Yeah I’ve seen that before. I’d be rather wary of trusting the testimony and demeanour of a captured soldier in a staged interview. How soldiers are in custody is unlikely to reflect how they are in battle.

And the video itself is a breach of the Geneva Convention. I don't buy the willing participant mantra.

Sure, but he has a youtube channel that the interviewers have seen, and they can tell he's a man without military experience. He's taken lie detector tests on his account.

There is a lot of evidence that makes it pretty clear that a lot of Russian soldiers had no idea they were going to war, and that a lot of them have very little military training. This guy had never even fired a rifle! (I see no reason why they'd create an interview that lies about that)

Maybe you think that every single Russian soldier is evil and deserves to burn to death. If you do, that's fine, we're allowed to disagree on that.

Okay Trig, I think you’ve made your point. We’ll agree to disagree and move on, shall we?

Yes, and essbee1 just quoted me on an old post, and I replied to him. That would be it, but...

Quite.

What do you mean 'Quite' - it's you that decided to continue the conversation again! essbee quoted me, I replied, and you jumped in with
Some posts make me wonder how people think people die in thunderous armed conflict? Peacefully at home with their family around them and whale song playing in the background?

I think it’s time for you to let it go. There’s no mileage in you raking over posts from days ago that have been discussed and apologised for. Well, I mean you can if you want but I’m respectfully ducking out of that line of conversation.

Are you drunk? I'm not raking anything up, essbee quoted me a few hours ago, and I replied. You then referred to my post with a facepalm (a few hours ago). If you don't want to bring it up again, stop posting about it!

Perhaps there are other experts with a differing point of view ? There is usually a lot of debate in any specialised field. I would imagine your quoted author has made other predictions that have not come true.

This post just goes to show that he will never really get it. Pointless arguing with him. Sad spiteful little man.
