The Europa League for Wigan is great news for the other promotion contenders but bad news for the new Wigan manager. Fixture congestion and travelling fatigue could cost them 4 or 5 points and might make all the difference.

If Poyet ends up at Wigan it will show this current episode has damaged himself even more than us. He looked primed for move to a top-10 Premier League club. If it ends up being a relegated club in the Championship, with half the crowd and every prospect of losing some players, compared to his options a month ago it's a personal disaster.

We'll see what transpires but if it is Wigan he has sabotaged himself as much as our promotion and play-off bid. It would be just what it looks like - a desperate escape route from a mess of his own making.

Indeed. It would be great if Wigan had a long Europa League campaign with a few trips to eastern Ukraine or similar :lolol:

What's that got to do with it. What makes us a bigger club than Wigan? Tradition? Well Wigan have spent more years in the top flite than we have. They have won the FA Cup. They will be playing in Europe. They have players who have regular prem league experience. We don't. They have an established academy, we don't.

We may have the potential to be bigger but we are not there yet.
Not that I disagree with you, but will they still have players with regular prem league experience by the end of August (or at least as many of them)?

Brighton factually.....
Whelan would not have Gus i am sure as Whelan has stated he is looking for stability, a manager who is likley to be at wigan for a while. That is not Gus

Good point he is also a very loyal person and I can see an ex Wigan player turning up as manager maybe Jewell or heaven forbid Aspinall !!

How do you come to that conclusion, even if we had won promotion he would still not have attracted any of the top 10.

In Gus' own head he is a top 4 Prem manager, and some on here believe his self-delusion.

Do you have shares in that bloody site?

No but what else is there to interest us at the moment with nothing coming out of the club. not that they can say anything, and no good ITK because TB plays it close to his chest nobody knows anything. So without that site life would be boring. Incidentally their latest is Harry spent 3 hours at TB London office today with his agent and an announcement saying Harry is replacing Gus will be made tomorrow at 5.00pm

Rumours that The Wally with The Brolly is very much in the frame for Wigan.

Which will mean we've successfully swerved him :drink:

Mike Phelan is the favourite for the job. You've got to believe that a load of ex-Man Utd coaches - Phelan, Meulensteen, McLaren, Phil Neville - coming cheap and comp-free with a load of contacts in the North-West holds more allure than the likes of Gus.

A step backwards ?
Get humiliated in The charity shield in August
Get knocked out of the Europa cup in the first round next season
A squad of very average prem players already, with the exception of two who will leave.
A bigger transfer budget for new players with really small crowds ( parachute payments for another 3 years)
And Dave Whelan is an absolute gunt

So a bad job to take for gus's stepping stone to his own greatness

I have made it more accurate for you Tony
