Totally different.

How is it different ?
Spurs didn't want to sell, City wanted him, Spurs slapped a massive fee on his head, City eventually looked elsewhere. Haaland.
Presumably Brighton will do this. Of course the outcome might be he goes but City interest does not inevitably mean he goes. "he's (not) gone" . Not yet anyway.

If they pay £50m, he is gone. If they don’t he is not going anywhere.

Why do people on this site always under value our players ? He had 4 years left on his contract, White went for 50 million , MC is a better player , we don’t have to sell , if City really want him 65 would be the starting price

I think the difference is the price Spurs stuck on Kane was a huge fee, even for City. The price we will stick on Cucu (£60m?) is relatively cheap for City and I'm sure if Pep really wants him, they will pay it.

We all just guess at prices. There’s clearly no standard market value for players these days. Teams with money pay more for players they need. Nobody is saying because Neymar went for (what was it?) £200 million or something that a decent striker should be approaching that kind of figure. Nobody is using Maguire’s transfer to Man U as a base figure for CBs. We clearly like to do these things both as quietly as possible and with lots of additional fees. So saying he’s worth 60 million doesn’t mean much. He’s worth that in our heads, on here. Who actually really knows how these transfers work?

Yes. AND the big one on NSC is one of our supposed testaments- that we will not stand in the way of a player who wants to move to a bigger club. City are THE biggest club. If you believe that testament, and most on here seem to, there’s no way we’d put a 100 million + transfer on his head.

We all like the romanticism of it all, but if Pep and Man City do want Cucurella, then there is very, very high probability he will go.

He will absolutely want to go, and who can blame him?

Need to hold out for 60 mil. We know they’ve got the money.

Yeah, but they still pretend to comply with FFP don't they. Pep is always whining that they can't compete financially (blah, blah, blah) so spending £50m on Haaland, and potentially Cucurella and Phillips may not be viable in the same window

Lateral thinking ...... we don't want to stand in Cucu's way, and he is keen to go to Citeh; Citeh won't agree to Little 'ol Brighton's demands for £60-£65M plus ....... FFP implications .......... Impasse!
£40M, and loaned back to us for the 2022-23 season?

Isn’t it irrelevant ? It’s well publicised that the club has a policy of not standing in the way of an employee or player moving, especially upwards if their valuation is met.

White £50M
Burn £13M-£15M
Bissouma £25M-£30M

You can’t then say we absolutely won’t sell Cucurella or put a stupid price tag on his head

Saying ‘we need you this season Marc but won’t stand in the way of a move next Summer’ looks good on paper but it’s a massive risk for both parties. 1) Man City will sign a LB so his chance of that move will almost certainly be gone and 2) we will have eliminated the biggest spender out of it. Can Barca spend £60million plus on a LB? How many teams can?

Can’t buy and loan back to selling club in same window in PL

If City don't agree to Tony's demands, Cucu won't be going. It's as simple as that really.

On the basis that size is measured by a lot more than just the wealth of the owners, City are not even the biggest club in Manchester.
