For Gods sake don't do it Britain. Aren't we in enough trouble internationally already? How about someone else take the lead for once, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, anyone? Why is always us? We can't afford it, we are broke
we also haven't got any planes....nothing to launch these non existent planes from
Naive question - why are we bothered about Libya? Do we get much of our oil from there?
More than 85% of Libyan oil exports go to Europe. The rest go to Asia, Australia and the US.
In order of dependence: (barrels = barrels per day)

Successfully invading Tripolitania and Cyrenaica (and then re-naming the country "Libya") is just about the only successful military venture the Italians have ever achieved, beyond their own borders.Let Italy sort it out then. Sure that'd scare Gadaffi

I say its not our business, if we really want peace, justice and liberty throughout the world there is only one legitimate way to achieve that. To lead by example. And we dont.
"When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle." - Edmund Burke
You have a very naive view of the world if you think sitting on ones hands and setting an example will free the world of tyranny.
Look what happened when Neville Chamberlain tried to appease the Germans. How many people died because of those actions?
Great use of a quote. I said in 2003 that iraq was a war which would come back to haunt us and i meant in exactly this way. When a just cause for intervention came we'd blink because of the legacy of iraq. Its ridiculous. Never liked Cameron, but on this one he and Sarkozy are calling it right in my book.To use that particular quote is to make afew assumptions. Are we "the good"? Are we in danger of "falling" if this situation is not dealt with militarily?
If we are truely against tyranny we could start by not selling weapons to dictators which they go on to use to kill their own people.
We cant espouse the virtues of peace, justice and liberty, while abondoning them wholesale ourselves.
We undermine exactly that which we claim to advocate.
