Let's not forget, and this amazes me, we are the 8th biggest exporter in the world, just behind France. Unfortunately these are mainly services which is why we MUST pander to the rich bankers/insurers and maintain an environment which got us into this shit in the first place. It's too late to take any other path.

No its not, we can change back, we just need to shake off old ways of thinking , get rid of the scroungers at both ends of our society, encourage our youth to be creative, free thinking but competitive and industrious and stop our nation from being controlled and manipulated by Global corporate companies and world bankers.

The trouble is our current electoral parties are the same people rearranging the chairs and are more interested in telling us what to eat, what to drink, what to think, how to have sex, etc etc in order to control us and sell us more goods so that they can tax us and maintain their power and wealth.

We need political parties that won't try and divide the nation in any way but unite it for a better life for all.

Selling a special limited edition run of berets and strings of onions with "Austerite? NON!" branded on them?

We've bailed them out enough times, why not throw money at them to?

Maybe France and Greece are showing the way in that there's only so far a government can beat up on the modestly-paid teachers that educate your kids, the doctors and nurses who look after your health, the refuse collectors who empty your bins, basically all the people who do socially responsible jobs that a civilised society needs to function, and none of whom caused this shitstorm in the first place. Squeeze people too far and you get voted out of office.
