He might earn an extra £100k per year at Palace if he can get it, but after paying higer rate income tax and national insurance contribtions (52%+) he would only be better off by around £50k per year "netto" at best. House prices and living expenses (council tax etc) will be higher in London, and travelling around in his more expensive car will take longer because of the congestion and traffic queues. Sometimes quality of life is better than a few extra pounds in the pocket.

Agree Simon...you could buy a decent caravan with the extra cash.

The bloke has moved on to get the best deal he could, I don't suppose any of his detractors would be happy to stay with an employer when their biggest rivals offer them a better deal of course.

Of course it could be that Murray knew that the club were looking to strengthen the side in all areas and that maybe he wouldn't be a first choice player?

Can you imagine the reaction of this lot if they had been supporting MUFC in 1975, and having sold Dennis Law to City, he subsequently relegated United at the end of the season?

I think The Samaritans would have been working overtime.

This and a combination of lots of other things such as, this is possibly a chance for a last big money move for him. He is on a free so more money for him. He did not feel particuarly wanted with us. Not sure that Gus really was ever convinced about him.
Scored some great goals during his time for us but just never seemed to really fit in or be settled.
