Film 2009

[Easy 10]

Have to agree on There Will Be Blood. All rather monotonous, with DDL doing his Butcher Bill act from Gangs of New York (which was a FAR better movie imho, but didn't get even a fraction of the plaudits and praise heaped on TWBB). Came away from that genuinely wondering what all the fuss was about.

I toughed it out for an hour thinking this os ok but VERY SLOW but it did not really move on it just ambled to a ridiculous and abrupt ending. Lewis was good and it looked great in places but it was a polished turd in all honesty. Magnolia which I know is a Marmite film is infinately better imo.

Not as daft as the ending of TWBB. The ending in Magnolia was bizarre to say the least but tied in with the concept if you think about it. IE nothing can be predicted as you think.

Apocalypse Now.

I finally got aroung to watching this film on my must see list.

The fils was very over rated imo.

The story was average and the plot, pacing and acting were good but nothing special.

I suppose made when it was the cinematograhpy and action scenes were good but once you have seen the first 25 minutes of Savings Private Ryan that knocks spots off anything AN has to offer.

The film also dragged and limped on to an unsatisfying conclusion and was just plain weird in the final segment.

It is NOT a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination I was left unsatisfied and dissspointed at this supposed great.

You`re right there actually US, I think he is a total cock. How he ever got that gig I will never know. I still miss Barry Norman who was only a knobhead. Can still remember him drooling over countless boring foreign language films.

Men Who Stare At Goats
It wasn't quite as offbeat as I was expecting, though did have it's moments. I think there was too much of a narration all the way through. Ewan's accent was often like his Big Fish accent, but sometimes it was more bearable. I think most of the performances were good, but I don't think you need to make an effort to see it.

Jennifer's Body
I think going in with very very low expectations meant it wasn't going to disappoint. But neither did it surpass them. There were one or two moments that seemed ok. JK Simmons is great, as always, playing a dorkishly geeky teacher. But over all not good. Not titillating, not fun, not scary, not hip, not anything really.

Watched Hard Wired last night. I like Cuba Gooding Jr but thought this film was absolute rubbish. This theme has been done many times & I think this one was one of the worst.

That's just my opinion.

Valkyrie - enjoyed this more than I would actually. Cruise normally PISSES me off but he wasn't too loathsome in this film. I do think any films regarding Germans during the war should be in German though.

The last house on the left 2009

This is a remake of the notorious 1972 Wes Craven horror film that was banned for decades.

Horror remakes are generally TURD but this was certainly an exception to the rule.

2 teenage girls are abducted and brutalised , attacked in the woods, stabbed , shot and left for dead by a gang of 4.

Said gang after a car crash head to the nearest house which is one of the girls parents house unknown to both parties. The cat and mouse that ensues once the knowledge is out is very good. It is a taught, tense, horror/thriller and much better than anyone could have expected. Acting all round was very good and its good to watch a horror with story, character and developement of plot nowadays rather than the ususal procession of torture porn. The killings in this film had a reason to them.

A good effort all round.

The Strangers
Too predictable, and very similar to Vacancy. Just different actors and a slightly tweaked plot line. Worth the watch if you like that kind of thing, but honestly it isn't a film to go out of your way to see.

I have to say I enjoyed There Will Be Blood. Charting the rise to wealth and power while simultaniously depicting the gradual destruction of his soul and humanity was very well done. I thought the acting (although DDL is always overated imo) was superb and the opening scene with no dialogue drew me into the story straight away. However, I can see why this dragged for some and whether this translates as an enjoyable film experience for everyone is debatable.

E.T the Extra Terristrial is however, a far more rewarding experience for any adult. The 80's Spielberg Masterpiece brilliantly portrays the distress and alienation a child can experience in the aftermath of divorce and one cannot help but empathise with the boy as he struggles to come to terms with his isolated existence. Which makes the drama even more poingnant that Spielberg inserted a pot-bellied, ostrich necked, bubble headed creature into the story because as we all know, a story about isolation cannot have an impact without the presence of a cute puppet. Superb stuff.
