It is a good piece. And it raises another good point: would anyone here watch the "death porn" which is the footage they were filming when he was attacked by the ray?

I would watch it. RIP Steve.

Lets be honest there are people on here going well over the top with their 'Steve Irwin was the second coming 'while DJ Leon knew what his comment would do and while it was not strickly necessary I don't think he meant it in the way it came across. Irwin did put himself in these situations so it was likely that something would happen to him but he seemed like a nice bloke with a wife and 2 young kids so it is sad.

Its not something i wish to spot.
I wouldn't mind seeing Rod Hull get electrocuted though and watch him and his loveless, wingless bird plummet to the earth.

All of which I have said myself, but I had a bee in my bonnet about people like Irwin (and risk takers generally) before he died and I'm not about to be hypocritical now. Sorry, but those getting really offended are the grief tourists normally seen on these RIP threads.

I think you've made some fair points. As much as I think it's a sad loss at the end of the day he chose that life & the risks that went with it.

One thing that seems to have been lost in this discussion is that Irwin didn't jump on crocs just for a laugh, it was part of his mission to save the creatures from slaughter, and usually it was to rescue or treat an animal under threat. All of his contact with wild animals helped to raise awareness and that was his goal. It wasn't mindless showmanship like the bloke climbing skyscrapers that DJ Leon quotes. He did risk his own life knowingly, but it was for the long term benefit of the animals, not his ego.

For DJ Leon to assume Steve Irwins life was simply all risk taking and thus is someway "had it coming" shows a very naive and callous understanding of the man. Irwin has openly admitted that the shows are merely a tool to raise funds and highlight the plights of some creatures and land that is very close to him. He took risks to show us what was happening to the world around us.

Very sad opinion Mr DJ Leon.

I do hope you're referring to Steve Irwin here, and not Rod Hull.
How does Rod Hull wash his clothes?
With "aerial" and "bounce".

How did dangling his kid in front of a crocodile show us what was happening to the world around us?
