what about Gtr Manchester?

Greater Manchester comprises the cities of Manchester and Salford, and the Metropolitan Boroughs of Bury, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Trafford, Tameside, Stockport and Wigan.

Greater Manchester had its own county council between 1974 and 1986. It still has its own police and fire services, and waste disposal provision.

Before 1974, it was all in Lancashire, except for the bits of Stockport, Trafford and Tameside which are south of the river Mersey.

What about Bristol/Avon/Glos?

Please reply, in no more than 2000 words. Extra marks will be included if you include references to Glos CCC, the Arnolfini and Exhibition Cider.

Thought this might be of interest to this subject.

According to this list only 7 counties have no present league side.

Cambridgeshire, Cornwall, Dorset, Oxfordshire, Rutland Westmorland, Worcestershire.

The list shows which league club belongs to which county.

Before 1974, Bristol was one of the very few cities not to be in a county, believe it or not. Gloucs CCC still played there, though. Bath was in Somerset.

Between '74 and 86, Bristol, Bath, and the area in between was in a county called Avon. I was born there.

Bristol is now in a place called "Bristol" and Bath is in a place called "Bath and North-east Somerset".

I don't know about the Arnolfini or much about cider.

Rubbish. A bit like you at snooker, I recall.
