They are allocated by their political party - as far as I can remember, we just get to vote for the party; so the party decides who gets a place at the trough - so you could argue that technically the MEPs per se are not elected.

So do you choose which people stand as a Conservative or a Labour candidate in your constituency?

If you can put your raw emotions aside for a few minutes (or a lot of minutes if you read the full report rather than just the executive summary) you should read this analysis of the likely impact of BREXIT, written before the vote. You can see that project fear was highly charged, emotional and not rooted in fact.

Here is an extract from the executive summary to wet your appetite: -

Based on assessing the evidence, we conclude that:
–The more extreme claims made about the costs and benefits of Brexit for the British economy are wide of the mark and lacking in evidential bases
–It is plausible that Brexit could have a modest negative impact on growth and job creation. But it is slightly more plausible that the net impacts will be modestly positive. This is a strong conclusion when compared with some studies
–There are potential net benefits in the areas of a more tailored immigration policy, the freedom to make trade deals, moderately lower levels of regulation and savings to the public purse. In each of these areas, we do not believe that the benefits of Brexit would be huge, but they are likely to be positive
–Meanwhile, costs in terms of financial services, foreign direct investment and impacts on London property markets are more likely to be short-term and there are longer-term opportunities from Brexit even in these areas

A report from a fund manager saying not to worry and keep on ploughing cash into the funds he manages. Well he would say that wouldn't he.

Independent report commissioned by a fund manager before the referendum to assess the likely implications of BREXIT and guide his investment decisions. Suggest you look at the executive summary at least before letting yourself down again.

LITERALLY no such thing as independent when it comes to bankers, fund managers and politicians. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Well how very generous of him to share this with the wider world. Did you invest more with him on the strength of that though?

No, I don't make any new investments. I draw income from my existing investments. You don't understand, do you? The report was produced to determine the likely impact of Brexit so that the fund managers could make appropriate investment decisions in the event of a Brexit vote.

Up to you whether you read it or not. I was simply trying to get you back in a rational place rather then posting continually based on raw emotion and fuelled by adrenaline.

I've already read it. I have a number of investments myself and as a business owner I make it my business to keep up to scratch on such things.

Do you really think a public piece of research will be used to inform fund manager decisions? Nothing that fund managers truly use is public, anything that goes public is for the sole purpose of influencing others for profitable reasons.

It really isn't some all final truth that only the privileged few have access too. It's a company that advised and managed corporations and individuals through 17 years of financial turmoil. It can help certain entities invest money wisely so as to profit from downturns and recession but it has little influence over how the European economy waxes and wanes. Interesting enough to keep an eye on though.
