Tell you what. IF I ever fell on hard times or had a crisis in my life NSC would be the LAST place I would announce it/discuss it/seek support from. Closely followed by facebook or twatter or any social media.

There are specialist websites for this sort of thing, enotalone for example, where they are strictly moderated so any "piss takers" are immediately kicked off the website.

I respect your opinion not to put your personal life on here, there are tons of things that I wouldn't dream of posting on here. That said though, I've posted on here before asking for some advice, and NSC is brilliant, 90% of people on here are very genuine supportive people. There are people from all walks of life, and people with many different experiences. I love being a part of it, and I hope it continues for years to come

I swear some people make such rash judgements on this site. I haven't read the whole thread, but labeling people 'miserable fuckers' because they're not being positive is a ridiculous statement to make. How would you know about their personal circumstances?

You're absolutely right. Society would be much better off if people walked around ignoring any problems they might have and pretended everything was perfect, brilliant and simple all the time. A little bit of reality is such a bad thing.

Some of what's been posted in this thread is fantastic. Nobody who was said this year isn't going too well is blaming anything, nobody (to me, atleast) has come across as defeatist or thinking the world owes them something, but then there are people who are slagging others off for saying this year isn't going too well. In my case, the year isn't going too well, that's the reality of it. But it doesn't mean I'm not trying to change it and it certainly doesn't mean I'm wallowing in the crapness bogging down my life at the moment. People are so quick to jump to the conclusion that other people are just moaning for the sake of it and not doing something about it. Those are the people who don't realise it's not as simple as, "you're not employed? Just get a job, simple". It isn't.

Doing what ? Standing up to someone taking the piss ?

If he's taking the piss then it's a very, very clever piss take, because all I read is someone who has pointed out some of your best qualities, qualities I for one do not have.

This is old hat now. Let me assure you it was a dig and a piss take. Thanks anyway.

I went to the funeral of a friend on Monday. He died aged 58 from bowel cancer. He loved life, had lived just long enough to see his first grandchild and had been married to his childhood sweetheart for years. He desperately didn't want to leave life.

The funeral put things in perspective for me.

It's been a decent year. Overall, I have great friends, family, a decent job and following the Albion's more fun than it has been in years. But my employers have been dicking me around recently, telling myself and the entire department I had a promotion in the bag and then two months later turning around and saying that actually, no, I haven't, which isn't fun. Still, that and some tedious girl-related stuff are the only two things in my life that aren't great at the moment, so I can't really complain - and the two things that aren't perfect are both within my control to try and change.

2011 was a bit iffy for me (apart from the Albion and the Amex of course).

But 2012 started very brightly indeed. Jan 2nd I met up with someone I had fancied for a while for a coffee (having finally asked her out on Xmas Eve). I then left her in Caffe Nero and got down to the Amex to see us thump Southampton. Life has been pretty good ever since.

So these things go in cycles, and the ups feel much better if you're coming from a down.

I assume you haven't done anything to improve it that actually worked. So therefore, you are clearly doing the wrong things.

We all know the mortgage market went tits up, which was your profession. So in your 5 years of 'shit', you could have looked at what wasn't being affected so much, and what kind of industry was booming, and re-trained in that, rather than wallowing in pity. I know a few people in a similar situation, and that's exactly what they did. They're having a great 2012, despite having been through some tough times.

Instead, as you've told us all many times, you've just been applying over and over again for jobs that you aren't going to get because you have completely the wrong skill set. I think it was Einstein who said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different result. Well he was right.

Ok, in the spirit of positivity, which I guess is how this post is supposed to read. Can you please tell me what the people you know have retrained in? Because I would really like to get a job, before 2013 becomes a really really shit year!

Before you judge someone on this board, you should walk a mile in their shoes.

That way when you judge them, you're a mile away and have their shoes! :)

I hope people aren't judging me then, my shoes are flyyyy... Converse All Stars Vintage 2012.

It's the wallowing in pity that gets me. This guy knows absolutely f*** all about the efforts I have made to improve my situation over the last few years.
