Fingers crossed England qualify
Even though I'm disappointed not to be available for England's World Cup qualifiers against Austria and Poland, the international break does give me a great chance to get myself fully fit to return for Crystal Palace's next match against Coventry on October 15.
At this stage I think there is a realistic chance I will make it because my recovery is going really well. The knee feels fine and I already have a full range of movements with it, which is brilliant. As far as I'm aware I'm bang on course to make a quick return.
At the moment I'm spending most of my time pounding away on the exercise bike and doing weights in the gym. It's not much fun but it has to be done, I'm afraid. My next aim is to be running by the middle of this week, or at the worst by Friday. The physio doesn't want to push me too hard too soon, but all being well I reckon I could be running pretty hard by the weekend.
If that happens it would give me seven days of full training before the Coventry match, which I hope will be enough. I really hate missing games. The sooner I can get back out there in a Palace shirt the better.
In the meantime I will be keeping my fingers crossed that England get the two wins we need to qualify for the World Cup finals. Our last match was a bad one, but I'm still very confident that the boys will do what they have to do this week and get six points. I can't imagine any other scenario really.
If we do qualify, I'll be doing everything I can between now and the end of the season to force my way into the final squad. It won't be easy because there are plenty of quality strikers out there, but I think I have a chance as long as I'm scoring goals for Palace.
