Darren Bent has scored, what, 9 goals already this season, all from open play I think, which compares more than favourably with Andy Johnson's 10 from open play in the entire season last time out.

Bent, Owen, Smith, Rooney, Heskey, Defoe- all some distance ahead of AJ I'm afraid, scoring machine though he is at this level.

"AJ" has been hard done by up by Sven and Jordan, and then been blinkered into the fact that staying at palace was the right thing to do. Crouch (who now also is ahead of Johnson) has now got what should have been Johnsons place in squad from being at at the 'pool where he should have gone. I dont think theres enough competitive games between now and Germany for Bent to make his mark, there could have been for Johnson I think he has missed the boat now for his World Cup chance but could have been in there as a 4th striker
