vladipisstake i am not going to say that the article you have quoted is inaccurate, but on a personal note
a while ago i took my stepson to the local housing office requesting accommodation for him and his girlfriend (who had just given birth to a baby boy with downs-syndrome) because the health authority said that their newborn son could not live in the accommodation they were currently in (dampish bed sit). on the top of the form it stated 'Priority will be given to asylum seekers/immigrants'

Funnily enough it seems to be missing from their stated priorities on the website.

I can imagine they would give priority to homeless people but I find it hard to believe they would specify a specific category like that.

What housing authority is this - it will be fairly simple to send them an email to check their policy.

If you look where I live you will see I don't have to go away to look at the facts. I only have to look out my window to see the influx of asylum seekers down my street.

I was going to ask you Coventry how you knew their legal status by just looking at them through your window.

Think your just splitting hairs now LI.

Well, surely it's relevant if they are legally settled immigrants or, as you imply, fleeing danger in their country of origin. These are completely separate policy debates, even if they "all look the same"

Thats not an issue, the issue is the longterm problems and short that are building up as are stupid government runs an open door immigration policy at our expense.

Here's the "libertarian" again arguing for stronger interference by the state in the lives of individuals and the free market for labour.

Fair point. I know that they are refugees as this was mentioned by the council in the local press. They are mainly from Africa.

We also have quite a few migrant workers from Poland. I can tell by the Polish number plates :D

1. I said I was libertarian leaning, you could also say liberty for who? The people who want to come here or the people who already live here.

2. The Free market is a leftwing fantasy reflecting there appauling ignorance of economics. Markets need regulating, its just a question of how much and what sort. Illeagal markets are free and thats about it.

3. I could say addressing it in your termsthat," heres the avowed socialist advocating totally free markets that not even rightwing economists would avocate, one who's professed love of immigration does not exstend to endorsing scottish imigration to Ulster".

If theres a charge of hypocracy around here its one you need to answer.

I just posting this because I'm on Looney's ignore list. No doubt he'll have a look to see what it say though.
