It is true he referenced his previous prosecutions of Trump in his campaign, and it is also true that he said he'd continue the investigation initiated by the outgoing DA Cyrus Vance.
Rules, morals and ethics are for other people, not Mr Trump. See his views on people invoking their fifth amendment rights (disgraceful), versus his own use of that right (invoked more than 400 times in one deposition).
Strictly speaking his lawyers can only advise him not to take the stand, the ultimate decision on whether to testify in his own defence is his, and he will have been asked this directly by the judge
