The fact that the Democrats don't replace Biden is a dereliction of duty. In much the same way as Labour didn't show any backbone in speaking out more strongly against Brexit.
If Trump gets voted in as President the Democrats will have blood on their hands for what subsequently happens around the world.
There is still time to replace Biden, for fucks sake get on and do it.

Once the dust settles, I can't see the 'undecideds' voting for the lying criminal. You could say they are the most thoughtful type of voter, not simply voting red or blue no matter what, giving more weight to policy and governing, and less to hyperbole and bluster.

Though having said that, it does feel as if their election is less about policy and governing than it is about changing society into an authoritarian hellscape. So maybe the 'undecideds' haven't thought about any of this at all.

That kind of makes sense but, as already mentioned, who would want to take on Trump from that starting point? They would have to have someone already lined up, which seems unlikely?

I used to think the World would be a safer place if Trump died before the election. Now I think that applies to Biden as well as it would force the Democrats to select someone else.

A friend in the States says as usual there are many conspiracy theories doing the rounds all with varying degrees of credibility. He'd heard one saying that Kamala Harris is deeply unpopular so that if Biden was to step down there had to be a way to ensure she did not become the nominee but also avoid offending the black community. One compromise would have been to make her a Supreme Court Justice as this is the only position higher than VP apart from being President. To this end there had been attempts to get Clarence Thomas off the Supreme Court creating a vacancy. Another rumour was Biden pardoning his son Hunter, stepping down as President and naming Harris as President for the remainder of his term and then the DNC picking another more suitable candidate for the actual Presidential race. That way he could go down in history as having been responsible for the first female President.

Looks likely that Trump is going to get away with virtually every misdemeanour, crime and lie. SCOTUS have ruled that he is immune from virtually anything he did while in office and, if he wins office again, he can do whatever he wants.

Could this be the beginning of the end for the US? Civil War #2 ?

SCOTUS has to go. But won't. Any reform would require the Democrats to get hold of the White House, the House and the Senate. And then to scrap the filibuster in the Senate.

I’ve limited sympathy for the US, they have chosen to learn the hard way, we just need to decouple from them.

However, it’s been bounced back to the lower courts to decide what of Trump’s alleged wrong doings, if any, took place as “official acts“ when he was President and what didn’t so Trump is not automatically immune from prosecution based on this ruling.

If this drags on past January 25, Trump will just flood the DoJ/ Federal courts with Republican appointees so the impact of this ruling on delaying his court cases may well result in the DoJ dismissing his criminal charges anyway.

What is absolutely extraordinary about this ruling is should a President murder his political rival, the federal courts could potentially rule that as an “official act” thus covered by Presidential immunity. That has shocking implications for the peaceful transfer of power in a liberal democracy.

judgment looks like a fudge, a roadbump for current or future cases. you first have to determine if an action was made in official or unoffical capacity. it should be fairly obvious when that applies, those actions in execution of the office. asking a governor to break the law on votes is probably not an official, but a DA and judge have to dance around that for months.
