Glad to see the NSC crickarati have stopped whinging about cheating foreigners, bad pitches and biased commentators and finally had to admit that (in these conditions at least) India are just far far better than England.
Better cricketers, better athletes and (irrelevant but true nonetheless)...
Same. I think the key is to open the schools and give it a few weeks to see what happens, whilst also accelerating vaccinations.
Then if all continues to look good, I'm very hopeful that end of March/early April we'll see a bit more opening than is currently planned.
Which will be nice.
Depending on sources, somewhere between 0.6 and 1.0
But I think R is now becoming a less relevant indicator for two reasons:
1. As numbers drop calculation of R is less and less reliable, as we saw in the summer.
2. With vaccination effect kicking in, the direct link between infection rate...
Yes, that was what I was thinking - increase how much they open things up at the earlier stages, rather than change the dates of the stages. I certainly don;t think the removal of all restrictions will happen before June, but some other stuff could certainly be done earlier, in safety, I think...
Good news the UK is doing well.
Not such good news that other countries are some way behind.
As well as the fact that the slow roll out elsewhere will cost lives, these are places I very much look forward to being able to travel to again soon (I'm a bit weird, as I am not too bothered about...
Yup, was going to say the same. Today is likely to be the day we hit 20m.
I heard from someone with a little more knowledge than me that the expectation is for a significant step up in numbers from around 1 - 2 weeks time, allowing first doses to continue racking up while starting get stuck...
And the Zoe symptom study app has now been adjusted for the glitch (people reporting vaccine side effect as symptoms) that was leading to an over-estimation in numbers - and now showing under 10,000 new daily (symptomatic) infections for the first time (this wave) at 9,651.
Our cat does meow at us. It does NOT meow at other cats. However (and this is 100% true) it does meow at our tortoise.
Oh, and Cat btw. for lots of reasons - but mainly they are by far the best looking of any possible pets.
Rabbits can have character. But mainly don't. They do, however, sh*t...
This is an uplifting article.
I've been paying quite close attention to the vaccine development ('obsessive' according to my family) and I still hadn't realised just how good they really are:

See above and below The slowdown is showing on the Zoe app, which uses (several million) people self reporting symptoms, alongside selective testing, to provide a predictive number for new symptomatic cases each day. It's generally been accurate on the trends (rather than numbers), and mainly...
It is what it is. All the sources have their own limitations, but as an indicator of trends overall it has been pretty accurate up to now I think, and slightly ahead of other data sources.
Thanks, that's good to know, as I wasn't aware of that and it makes sense. Hopefully that's the cause, as it did seem surprising. As mentioned above, I was expecting some slow down in the decline, but not as much as seems to be showing, and the Zoe app has been very reliable up to now, as an...
I know there are daily fluctuations - and the 7 day rolling is key, but generally each week follows a similar patter, and I was looking specifically at the Monday to Tuesday change. Last week it went down, this week up a bit. It's a sample size of 1, so normally I'd not think twice, but as I...
I really do hope it is not the case. My observation is mainly from the Zoe app, where there has been a definite slowdown and now very slight upturn over the last five days. That app is pretty reliable and tends to be the best early indicator of overall patterns, so I'm fairly sure this trend is...
Unfortunately the downward trend in infections seems to be levelling out. It may be a blip, as it's only been happening over a few days (on the Zoe app initially, but now signs in other data) but from watching trends over the last year, it looks more likely to me that we will now see a rise...
