    Spectre (contains spoilers...)

Saw it on Friday with the wife and a mate. I didn't rate it, my missus thought it was good and my mate loved it. Just goes to show! For what it's worth I thought the film was a series of badly connected set pieces with little to hook you into it. But my mate saw it totally opposite! It's done...

Cuffs (new crime drama set in Brighton)

I saw a very odd shoot with 'Cuffs' on the clapperboard, it was down by the Costa on London Road. A bunch of kids, dressed as Ninja Turtles, were doing a dance off. Utterly bizarre.

    [Misc] Battle Of Agincourt 1415

Agree - the whole episode was a bit of a shambles by both sides, read Ian Mortimer's 1415 - a cracking book.

    [Misc] Battle Of Agincourt 1415

both Juliet Barker and Ian Mortimer have written very interesting books on Agincourt, the latter's is a diary account of 1415. Quite brilliant and sets the scene with some interesting arguments about what happened after the battle and how the defeat came about.

Adults/Halloween/ adults dressing up on general.

trick or treating is referred to in Shakespeare's Two Gentlemen of Verona bit of pointless trivia there.

Beggars : do you give money to them ?

I walk along Western Road and up to the station each morning and have done for a few years. There is a rotation of folk who are collecting change, unsure if this is organised or coincidental, for example the chap outside Tescos most mornings is now outside Waitrose (near the guy who often has...

[Albion] The Championship this weekend 16-18/10/15

ahh - I see. I remember one member of the Clarets Mad forum checking through the account Bolton had filed, all above my head but the conclusion (back then) was that the club needed to finish in the top 10 in the Prem each season to service its debt. If Eddie Davis had called it in they would be...

[Albion] The Championship this weekend 16-18/10/15

Cheers - I'm curious as to why you dislike Notlob so much? There was a general dislike but things were really stoked when Coyle left us for them, taking half the staff. He then went on about how they had more money that Burnley (they had more credit...) and that they were where Burnley should be...

[Albion] The Championship this weekend 16-18/10/15

as a Claret's fan I'm hoping for a sound win, for the first time this season we've got a midfield where we're not asking a winger to play in the middle. Barton might be marmite but he's a CM playing in the middle. Hopefully Arfield can do what he does best out wide. It's the first time we've...

    Mourinho latest.

The only place left for him is PSG. The Spanish press will have the knives out if he came back, likewise with the Italians. He generally manages teams which have the strongest resource at that time and PSG fit the bill perfectly.

Former famous footballers doing something a bit different these days

I knew Moseley's son who said his dad was a postie, Adrian Randall (ex Burnley) is a postie as well.

Portslade and the 'chav towns' of Sussex

Durrington seems to have gotten a lot nicer in the last 10 years or so, before they redeveloped Tesco they had a pub on it (forget the name) which was renowned as being a place full of ‘character’. I was also told that the deliveries to the Tesco at the time used to get attacked by the local...

    Juergen Klopp

something which seems to have been missed (or perhaps I have missed it) is that Klopp plays a very high tempo game which requires very high levels of fitness. He used to use the mid winter break in Germany to rest and recoup. You don't get that here, in fact it's the opposite. It's a very...

    Breaking news - Blatter suspended!!!

I seem to remember hearing that if the US places FIFA on a particular list (due to its shenanigans) it means no US company can deal with them. This kills a large portion of the deals FIFA has, which could bankrupt it. I imagine that's the threat many at FIFA are concerned with, faced with this...

    Sunday League player jailed........

Towards the end of my pub football playing days I swore the game was getting nastier. Not harder, I should add, just nastier. Perhaps I'm viewing it with rose-tinted spectacles but when I started out playing there were tough sides who would kick you, but never do anything like this. The last few...

Should UK pay reparations to Jamaica for slavery?

This wasn't aimed at you specifically, apologies if you think it was. I've just heard this point a lot when the debate is aired and never quite considered it as analogous with, say, the British Empire and slavery.

Should UK pay reparations to Jamaica for slavery?

as someone with a penchant for ancient history I find the citing of Rome somewhat baffling. The Roman Empire is thought to have ended in the 5th century. Italy, as a single entity didn't appear till the 19th. The periods in between saw a series of states in the Italian peninsula, many of which...

Rugby World Cup - England vs Wales, Twickenham 20:00

If Farrell had taken it and missed then it would have been a 22 yard dropout, so England would have received the ball in play and with something to attack. Not the worst insurance to have. Instead we went for a lineout, which itself wasn't a huge error. The real issue is that once we decided to...

Anti virus / spyware software- any recs?

Few chaps who I know that work in IT wouldn't touch the likes of McAffee etc. They slow the PC down and are very OTT. If you're not sharing files with strangers and clicking on every link in spam emails then MSE, AVG (free) and the occasional use of Malware Malwarebytes will be more than enough...
