    Joshua v Whyte / Eubank v O'Sullivan

Withdean11, I read your posts on the other thread with interest - as a fighter how do you see both fights going?

    Joshua v Whyte / Eubank v O'Sullivan

neither of those - there's quite a MMA/Boxing aspect to the one I go to so I've seen him in the ring and doing cardio there a few times. I'm sure most boxing at his level are, but he seemed in top condition.

    Joshua v Whyte / Eubank v O'Sullivan

Noted that there seems to be a fair bit of boxing knowledge on here, wonder what folk thought of the two main fights this weekend. Eubanks Jnr trains at my gym, saw him last night doing some light stuff. Not a boxer myself but found it quite fascinating. Find myself rooting for him.

    Swansea City and Gary Monk.

it might be worth considering the reasons behind a sacking. It's not always due to poor results. Fergie was sacked more due to internal issues at St Mirren and I remember Adkins being sacked from Saints due to how the chairman saw the club working (Adkins wasn't keen on particular systems and...

    Tyson Fury on R2 today.

Fury will now have any/every journo asking daft questions to get a response which they will then dance and jump around with. Hereby known as the ‘Holloway effect’.

    Your favourite Christmas time movies

Gremlins and Santa Claus conquers the Martians. The latter was made in the mid 60s and widely held as one of the worst movies of all time. It makes truly bizarre watching.

Would you vote for bombing ISIS in Syria?

Cameron was asked this last week in the HoC, the question actually specified whether Saudi Arabia had these. He avoided answering, would have thought he could have mentioned it then. Exactly why he avoided this option seems odd.

Would you vote for bombing ISIS in Syria?

So we're in then. Quite interesting that the first hit was an oil refinery, bearing in mind we've avoided hitting these for some time it suggests we don't expect to win anytime soon. Normal practice is to leave the infrastructure for all those juicy contracts coming our way. I genuinely hope...

Would you vote for bombing ISIS in Syria?

Thanks again JC, Curiously I don't see why bombing in Iraq means that we should be doing so in Syria. The objectives and targets differ immensely. For example the coalition have known about the oil for a long time, yet only recently starting hitting the refineries. They've only recently started...

[Football] The Championship this weekend 3-6/12/15

Good point well made - it's essentially a derby of sorts so league position is less relevant. Plus with Barton in our side a red card is always a-waiting.

Would you vote for bombing ISIS in Syria?

Cheers JC, Nice to have a decent exchange of opinions! The situation in Iraq is different in a number of ways, firstly there’s a ground force which is operating along with the air strikes. I’m not convinced that we have that in Syria. The targets presented by an army stretching into a new...

Would you vote for bombing ISIS in Syria?

JC - cheers for the response. I agree that inaction has consequence, however, the problem with this is that (i) it posits that anything other than bombing is inaction (ii) the consequences of our inaction doesn't mean the situation will remain unresolved. Our involvement will be to balance out...

Would you vote for bombing ISIS in Syria?

The initial unrest in Syria had a number of reasons, the idea that it was simply a bunch of chaps who wanted more freedom doesn't really explain it fully. Syria was and is a very contested area in the geopolitical context, then there's the pipeline which is often overlooked...

Would you vote for bombing ISIS in Syria?

Strong no from me, sadly this is being twisted by some sections of the media (and even the PM) into meaning that you wouldn't mind ISIS popping round for a cup of tea and a chat. Bombing isn't an effective way of dealing with a non-structured army. ISIS are far better countered through stopping...

    Bolton players unpaid

When Owen Coyle left us there was a lot of ‘interaction’ between Burnley and Bolton fans. One of the main sticking points was that Coyle (and many of the Bolton fans) went on about their supreme financial situation. Aside from the bickering a few Burnley fans pointed out that though Bolton were...

Russian jet shot down ,WW3 about to begin ?

for those interested - Tom Holland's Shadow of the Sword is a very good read. If you're unfamiliar Holland's a historian who has written on a number of subjects and does well to make the subject relevant and engaging. Shadow of the Sword details the early formation of Islam and the contributing...

Black Friday is here shortly! What are you looking for?

seem to remember some of the 'deals' from last year being a bit contentious. Shop has a product overpriced for September, October and November. They then drop it to the normal price for the sales and people jump all over it as a bargain. I think you only need to have one unit priced...

Russian jet shot down ,WW3 about to begin ?

someone mentioned oil a while back - it's worth considering how a pipeline may have been a major factor in the whole situation developing. This article dates to 2013 and is quite prescient. http://ftmdaily.com/what-jerry-thinks/whysyria/

A View From The Burnley End

As Burnley fan I was grateful for the penalty, though I can only echo what others have said about 12 of those a game given. Worth noting that all the pulling which goes on prior to the corner kick being taken is allowed - the ball isn't in play so you can do that without being penalised. The...
