    [Politics] Brexit

10 days or so ago Johnson said he was confident of alternative arrangements being found within 30 days, which would make the backstop redundant. Why not sign up to the WA agreement as is today then, the backstop issue will have been sorted within the first 20 days of leaving the EU, we wouldn’t...

I guess we could go straight in to EFTA and sign up to Schengen etc. as you say it works for the Swiss

Labour MPs weren't elected to endorse Tory policy; and vice versa. They would be failing their constituents wishes who voted them in if they did.

    [Politics] Brexit

No one has ever voted for a no deal Brexit. Regardless, in 2017 over 25 million people voted for a deal.

I agree with you. In 2016 you, and millions of others, didn't vote for a deal. You, and millions of others, also didn't vote for no deal. However in 2017 millions of people, and possibly you, did vote for a deal.

 I'm not sure what point you are making? If it is Leave 2-0 Remain, that's all it is. Its not leave by the 31st October without a deal, facilitated through closing parliament and if that doesn't happen get all violent and go and spill some blood on the streets.

    [Politics] Brexit

The 2016 referendum was just leave. The 2017 GE manifestos that 85% of people voted for were leave with a deal. People have voted to leave the EU with a deal. People have never voted to leave the EU without a deal. Stop being undemocratic, LEAVE WITH A DEAL MEANS LEAVE WITH A DEAL.

    [Politics] Brexit

Can you please explain, before you take a week off, if you can, how: 1. Our democratically elected MPs, elected on the basis of delivering Brexit with a deal; 2. Voting democratically to prevent a no deal Brexit and therefore ensure what they were democratically voted in to do is carried out...

    [Politics] Brexit

Thanks for that video but I am not sure that Piers Moron is the authority on the matter, lots of people on both sides of the Brexit campaign said lots of things. Ultimately the vote was to leave the EU, nothing more, nothing less, as you have said "simple". 85% of people then voted for parties...

    [Politics] Brexit

I agree it is extremely simple, as I said, "this was to leave the EU, nothing more, nothing less." How we leave the EU, the detail, was not voted on (well it was in 2017 when 85% of people voted for manifestos stating we would leave the EU with a deal). That is what is being democratically...

    [Politics] Brexit

Parliament has been acting entirely democratically, and continues to do so. No need for any violence. If a bill goes through Parliament to seek an extension democratically I am not sure what the problem is. No need for any violence. Just because you don't like this is not justification for...

    [Politics] Brexit

Indeed parliament hasn't said this. Infact parliament have said the opposite as it voted to uphold the referendum, i.e. that it would accept a deal. All parliament have said is that they don't accept the current deal. Put an appropriate Brexit deal in front of Parliament and it will be voted...

    [Politics] Brexit

Are you suggesting that if in the next three weeks alternative arrangements for the Irish border were found and the backstop was then no longer required, the WA would not be changed? Regardless, in a sense it wouldn't need to be changed as the backstop wouldn't be needed anyway. Didn't Merkel...

Finally an appropriate sign off :lolol:

    [Politics] Brexit

The WA is negotiable. As soon as the alternative arrangements become apparent then there is no need for the backstop and this aspect can be removed. At the moment we have 30 (20?) days to find and agree these alternative arrangements, which isn't much time, another 400 days would help.

He is an expert then, and arguably a hypocrite (although I am sure he would say the context of the 1997 prorogation is fundamentally different), and understands exactly what's being done and why.

    [Politics] Brexit

I see, yes you are right. The EU could just say "we are happy to extend for another 3/6 months etc. in order to avoid no deal, do you want this?".

    [Politics] Brexit

On the one hand it would be funny, heads would explode, on the other I don't believe it at all. As much as I think being in the EU is a good thing overall, we should, and currently are, able to unilaterally leave the EU when we want.
