King played 3 games in 10days recently and came out unscathed, personally I'd have Dawson & King alongside each other in the WC, two central defenders who know each other inside out is alot better than two central defenders that dont!

Point is, having 2 of your central defenders with very serious injury concerns is really not a good way of going about forming a world cup squad. I'm no expert but I would imagine that you don't really want more than 3 injury concerns in the whole squad, so having 2 in the same position seems crazy,

if anything King has proved this season that if controlled correctly he'll have no problems playing in all the WC games, Ferdinand is more of an injury concern IMO...that and he's shit :p

Look. We are not going to win this world cup with the likes of Upson at centre half.

You have to take Ferdinand and King its a simple as that, chances are between them they will get through the tournament, and with Carragher as cover we will have 5 centre backs in the squad.

Now if 2 break down and one gets sent of we should still be ok.

King will go, he is in the squad.

Its the right decision as is Dawson who Tevez said was the toughest defender he played against this season

According to the BBC site, Capello said Bobby Z was not picked because he can not train every day because of his Achilles injury.

Let's not forget, he only scored 8 goals in the Premiership this season which is not prolific. I can't fault his goal record in the Uefa Cup, but apart from Juventus (who are 7th in Serie A) he didn't really score against top opposition.

Despite being a Palace fan, I would of taken him over Heskey still. But with his current niggling injury and only one decent goal scoring season in the Prem, it was always a long shot.

Darren Bent should be brimming with confidence, Sunderland are a poor side so to score at Old Trafford etc and knock in 25 goals this season is impressive. He HASN"T been given a proper chance with England, so lets get behind him and the rest of the team.

Winners of the German league? Previous holders?

I'm really gutted for the guy he would've given us something different in my opinion. Also from a selfish point of view i was at his Brighton debut(s) would love to have seen him pull on the three lions vs mexico too

Well its not quite the carcrash squad Sven picked.

But honestly, I'd have thought Bob was worth a sniff as an extra forward when you look at the sheer number of peripheral midfielders that are inevitably going to be trimmed.

And I mean christ, are we really bothering with Darren Bent ?
Heskey has been woeful all season. I know he fits into the system well with Rooney, but surely Zamora was worth a look as backup if nothing else.

Maybe I'm just overly biased cos its Zamora, but looking at that provisional squad, I think there should have been room for him.

heskey makes the space for a more-or-less GENIUS footballer to exploit...

he is the only one that can physically bully defences, allowing rooney to run amok

it is a tactical decision for an almost peerless manager to make

i will accept a glaring miss a game from heskey if the system works, which it has previously.

you never know he may score one or two.

and in mitigation, i accept that we must worry a little about the agony of a miss in a crucial and tight game scenario...

but its about best options. if he plays this system, i hope it works for the team and heskey is a world cup hero forever... perhaps he scores the winner in the final and we can all enjoy the most wonderful irony in history, not least of all the man himself.

Michael Owen scored a hattrick against Wolfsburg.

I'm not saying Zamora didn't have a good season, but there are plenty of reasons why he wasn't selected.

So what? Micheal Owen is a top-quality striker.

The only reason why he wasn't selected is because he's injured.

He WAS a top quality striker, to say he still is simply isn't true. Three league goals in twenty Premiership games for one of the best sides in the world isn't impressive.

Zamora faced his hardest opposition in the Premiership and mustered 8 goals, injured or not he was never a favourite to go to the world cup.

Pleased Scott Parker's in the squad though, hope he takes Barry's place.
