Point is, having 2 of your central defenders with very serious injury concerns is really not a good way of going about forming a world cup squad. I'm no expert but I would imagine that you don't really want more than 3 injury concerns in the whole squad, so having 2 in the same position seems crazy,

Capello has chosen six centre backs in his preliminary squad. After assesing them during their training camp if Ferdinand and King are both too risky to take then I'm sure they won't be selected(or at the worst only one will be selected) and the other four will. It's not that big of an issue really is it? They're both quality defenders who if fit are amongst the four best(possibly the two best...) central defenders we have. It's well worth taking a closer look at them.

As for Bobby, it's a real shame he's injured. Would have been great to see him in an england shirt at a world cup.

From the Guardian, including quote from Capello

The national coach had personally informed Zamora that he was to be included only for the striker to confirm he expects to undergo surgery on his achilles problem after the Europa League final against Atlético Madrid. "That was an intelligent decision," Capello said. "He said that every time he plays he needs an injection. He decided he couldn't be fit to play with us. After his last game, he thinks he'll probably need an operation to be fit for next season."

A shame that events transpired to rob him of the chance, he must be gutted but it is probably for the best. Let's hope he picks up a winners medal tonight.

Should we start the "Zamora for Euro 2012" campaign now?

He could have done at least what Heskey has done so far for sure.
