And the reason then for Barry being included is what?

Played in nearly all the qualifiers.
Pivotel player in Capello's midfield.
Experienced International.
Diagnosed to have recovered in 4 weeks.

Even if he's struggling for the opening game, Barry is on the plane no question. He is a BIG part of Capello's plans.

Hold on - all is not lost...

"Once his final 23-man party is named after the second of two forthcoming friendlies, against Japan in Graz on May 30, Capello can still make changes due to injury and those replacements do not have to come out of the original 30."

lets hope japan have a team of hard hatchet men!!!! ........5ft skinny ones.....lol

I see what you mean, BUT can you gamble on Zamora as well? Or anyone else for that matter? He's probably the best and most experienced striker left to pick.

Well, we could have tried Bobby against Japan. He's a different sorta stiker to Bent as well. He would have been another option in the Heskey role.

"Bobby is also making progress and we will have to see if he is fit enough to train, or whether he needs more time. Of course, though, the more time he needs, the more difficult it makes my team selection because he has not trained or played since coming off against Hamburg."

"Time is working on his behalf, so if Bobby was lucky enough to be involved for England, then by the time that group get together after the FA Cup final, it would not prevent him from taking part in that."

R. Hodson, 10.05.10

The knock hasn't helped, but sadly I just don't think Capello fancies Bobby.

How has Capello worked out taking Heskey when he is being kept out the villa side by an ENGLISH striker. Surley if he doesn't want to take Zamora he has to pick Abonlahor instead of Heskey :US:

Pleased for King as he is a good player, but...

Taking Ferdinand, with his injury problems this year, and King who won't be able to play all the matches is complete madness. I know Capello knows all but this would be far too big a gamble.

As for Zamora - gutted for him that he's not in there but also think it's a bit ridiculous that he's not considering his form. I'm hoping he can keep it up next season so he can have a stab at England squad in a non-World Cup year.

from my point of view:

1) the recent injury to BZ has'nt helped his chances
2) he plays a simular role to that of Rooney more so than Heskey IMO, and lets face it he wont ever get ahead of Wayne!....Pressures on Heskey now to prove himself.
3) Bent has scored more goals and looked good all season so deserves to go ahead of BZ again IMO
4) Although I'm gutted not to see him in the squad, I reckon another good season next year and he'll have to be picked.

Hence the Carragher insurance policy.

King played 3 games in 10days recently and came out unscathed, personally I'd have Dawson & King alongside each other in the WC, two central defenders who know each other inside out is alot better than two central defenders that dont!

How'd you come to that conclusion?

Bent deserves to be in the squad over Zamora.

Are you having a f***ing laugh? Bent is the centre piece of Sunderland, they play to suit him, the make it easier for him to score as their talisman.

Zamora has to play as part of the unit and the Fulham team isn't built up around Bobby.

Sadly for us, with the strikers that are going to the WC, Capello with have no choice than to include BZ in his Euro's planning, if Bobby starts next season well.

We aren't taking a potential Golden Boot winner, not when Rooney gets injured.

Hence the Carragher insurance policy.

But he's really not very good! He's too slow, "resigned" from England because he was too shit to get in the team and now the tosser is back in the frame again! He is the Prem Andy Whing, gives his all, but not the slightest drop of talent!

And can we stop going on about the Rooney/Heskey partnership. Didn't notice Rooney needing any help from a lumbering oaf this season, yet he has had his best goal scoring season ever, usually playing as a lone striker! I think Rooney has progressed to the level now where he doesn't need some carthorse getting in his way! Heskey is at least 3rd choice at Villa and he is just in the squad because of his form a couple of years ago. Mind you, I suppose if the squad was picked on this season's form it would be difficult to make a case for Gerrard to be included!

Bent - 24 Premier League goals

Zamora - 8 Premier League goals

So goals in Europe don't count? Also there's no point in comparing them since they are two completely different players. Zamora could play with Rooney, Bent could not. I'm pleased Bent is in the squad though, you can't ignore 25 goals.

I can see Bent being Rooneys sub personally
