Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness - Smashing Pumpkins. Incredible double album

Additional vote for Sophtware Slump and Music has the Right to Children.

I've always thought Just like the Fambly Cat by Grandaddy was a concept album but officially it isn't.

Double whammy

Concept album reimagining of a concept album

Same. I also saw them at Hammersmith Odeon. From memory I bought the Hammersmith ticket and then the Centre date was added after when the album blew up. One was then postponed when Fish’s voice went.
In those pre mobile phone days, me and a colleague turned up at Hammersmith to for the gig only To find that it had been postponed so we also ended up at the extra Brighton date instead. That person ended up as an Antiques Expert on ITV programmes but don’t think anyone would know that he also attended the Motörhead 10th Birthday party with me at the Hammy O.
And a band called Beltane Fire were support!

For some reason my memory is good on this.

They have always stuck in my mind as being really bad. When a support act for a rock based audience turn up with a double bass on stage it isnt a good start. However, the thing that sticks most in my mind is that at one point the lead guitarist broke two strings and it didnt seem to have any impact on the quality of their music.

Seeing this band in March, they do very good and very long shows, mainly because they have so many guest vocalists with them. Last time they came to the UK they had Bob Catley of Magnum and Geoff Tate from Queensryche amongst the guests.

Beltane Fire were a bit of an odd band to support a prog rock act.

Stainless Style .... YES,! That is an excellent shout.

A Saturday afternoon stalwart soundtrack album to my shifts in 'The Coopers Cask'. Back when I could stand up for 6 hours and didn't hate the general public.
I wonder if our paths unknowingly crossed as I used to go to The Coopers around then. I can pinpoint the era as I saw Neon Neon perform this album at Digital.

Controversial one, I’d argue Bat out of Hell could be considered a concept album

I am soooo pleased nobody has suggested Tales of Topographic Oceans.
I remember Peel playing it and lifting the needle after 5 minutes, apologizing for attempting to play shite.
Yes? No.

A guilty pleasure of mine is Misplaced Childhood by Marillion.
Nothing guilty about that. Excellent album.

I don’t know why as it’s not particularly profound or anything, but “dancing in stilettos in the snow” is one of my all time favourite lyrics 🤷‍♂️

Love that.

Had no idea it is a concept album.
Would you mind explaining to a former hippy and punk and post punk and wave and witch house guy what the concept was?
