The best ever acting performance in a film ?

For me I am struggling to think better than Gary Oldman in Darkest Hour. I thought it extraordinary

Seen about 5000 films and it is a top 5 ever, no doubt at all

What is your greatest ever ?

Bruno Gantz as Hitler in Downfall.

An honourable mention for John Hurt as John Merrick in the Elephant Man

Off the top of my head and having not seen that many films in the last few years, probably Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. Maybe Christopher Walken in the Deer Hunter. Two films that genuinely traumatised me.

He's a great actor. Can't wait to see the movie.

Anthony Hopkins in Shadowlands (1993) immediately comes to mind. Would melt all but the coldest of hearts.

Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest.

Loved that film

Definetly Nicholson in Cuckoos Nest.
Stand alone performance in my opinion since I’ve been watching cinema.

Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting is incredible, the depth and power of his performance is incredible for a comedian at heart. His dramatic performances were always incredible. Such a sad loss.

Off the top of my head: Henry Thomas in ET, Ralph Fiennes in Schindler's List, Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs and Shadowlands and Frances McDormand in Fargo and perhaps 3 Billboards.

Agreed. I'd also include his role in One Hour Photo and, if it counts, Aladdin.
I would also add to my list above Tom Hanks in Captain Phillips - the last 10 minutes are astonishing
