Following on from the excellent '1st Goldstone game', how about some memories ofwhen the FA Cup really had some magic?

My 1st FA Cup game was, would you believe, on the 16th november 1968 and i think some 9,000 turned up to see 3rd div Albion v non league Kidderminster Harriers.

I loved it, from my place on the SW terrace, as Albion eased into a 2-0 half time lead, scored into the south goal. I'm pretty sure kit napier scored and I think the other was either Tiger Tawse or Charlie Livesey.

It all changed in the 2nd half as Harriers pulled it back to 2-2 and i remember feeling extra miserable as it was f f freezing.

We were not expected to win the replay but did by the only goal, scored by Kit Napier.

Think we played Coventry at home maybe 5 years ago? Lost 1/2-0 if I remember correctly.

Nice one FG. My first memory of seeing the Albion in the FAC was vs Wisbech at the Goldstone in 1965 when we won 10-1; also saw us turn Saarfend over 9-0 in the league later the same season. Probably the most notable FAC game I remember in the 60's was when we drew Chelsea in 1967; Bobby Tambling gave them a first half lead but Dave Turner equalised past Peter Bonnetti in front of the South stand during the second half. Brian Tawse, and the rest of us, thought he'd scored the winner late on with a long distance effort but it was controversially disallowed for offside.

Wisbech and Chelsea were the two immediate ones that came to my mind too. I recall the 9-0 Southend game being fairly soon after, maybe a month later, but memories fading???

Not my first FA Cup tie, but I remember going to non-league Bedford Town for a replay sometime in the 60s after we drew with them at home and, if my memory serves me correctly, we lost! (Just checked their website and they beat us 2-1!).

Hope not to hear of a repeat of that tomorrow!

Norwich City, Quarter Final, 1983. Ironically my first game was a friendly against Norwich City in 1977 and first league game a 4-2 defeat to the same team in 1979.

My first away game was in the F.A Cup at Watford, Fifth Round, 1984.

After I left school,I started going home and away regularly a few years later, the first game being at errr Norwich...

The first one I can remember is THE Burnley game-1960/61 (?). I'd never been amongst that many people before and the noise and atmosphere was amazing. Couldn't sleep for days after because of the excitement.

This was a game i remember really well, midweek replay, snowed all day long but never any chance of a postponement, and no undersoil heating either! Was a cracking atmosphere with a decent Bradford turnout too.

about 1960 or 61 we drew with Burnley who were absolutely in their pomp. Can't remember the score 2-2 or 3-3 - there were lots of goals is all I remember

I remember that game, Burnley were the current first divison champions and we equalised in, I think the last ten minutes, with a goal from our fullback Bob McNicol with a blast from just over the halfway line to make it 3-3.

Mine was the 3rd round tie against Newcastle in the 1983 cup final year. No need to mention the score as I'm everybody knows it but it was 1-1.

That was my first FA Cup game, and my first ever trip to the Goldstone.

My Grandad, being a big Geordie fan, wanted to take me to see Brighton play a proper team playing proper football.

Keegan and Terry McDermott were in Newcastle's team I think?

Brighton 0 Leatherhead 1 in the third round in 1975

Chris 'The Lip' Kelly scored for them, and it was big news the following day. Leatherhead then played (old first division) Leicester in the next round and were two up at half time but lost 3-2.
