Your 1st FA CUP match.

v Man. City 1983 - 3rd/4th round. We went with a friend who is a Man. City fan - as I recall Albion were 2 - 0 up and cruising quite early on and went on to win 4 - 0. There was much laughter at half time when the "in event of a replay..." information was given out - City never got into the game.

They got some slight revenge - I believe they were the last game of the season (and our last game in the top flight - so far?) and won 1 - 0 at the Goldstone, not sure if we were already down by then though.

Most memorable was the following season, the unforgettable 2 - 0 defeat of Liverpool on a chilly Sunday afternoon in front of the TV camera's, great game and atmosphere with the Liverpool strikers having a "couldn't hit a cow's backside with a banjo" sort of afternoon.

Home to Luton Town in 89 or 90. They were a first division team and had Danny Wilson in midfield(my first experience of a returning hero). We won 4-1.

Actually, did we play leeds at home in the cup the year before? I seem to remember playing them twice at home in the same season. My brother saw us win and I saw us lose. That might have been my first f.a cup game...

I remember that game, Burnley were the current first divison champions and we equalised in, I think the last ten minutes, with a goal from our fullback Bob McNicol with a blast from just over the halfway line to make it 3-3.

I was there. First Albion goal that I remember. A real cracker.

I'm pretty sure that Chelsea fielded the same eleven players who had won the cup final against Leeds in 1970. Unbelievable.

We lost 0-2 and it was on The Big Match.

The first I can remember is V Liverpool at anfield in 90/91 where we drew back from 2-0 down. My dad sent me (a nipper at 10 or 11) to get a coffee just after half time when the queues were shorter, and we scored (possibly the equaliser) as I was returning to my seat. All the jumping around led to spillage of the coffees.

I'd been going for a few years at that point, so I imagine there were others, but I don't think they were as big or memorable.

Wow that brings back some memories, remember that match well, didn't Pompey have some thug playing for them called Martin Kuhl? and didnt he get sent off?(sorry if that is mentioned in the video commentary but my pc has no sound!)

My first FA cup match was a home 3rd round replay defeat by Man Utd in 1981,think we lost 2-0 and Garry Birtles scored.

My first cup match was the defeat at Kingstonian in 1994. Let's hope we don't get a repeat of that tonight as I think they were the same level as Woking are now.

Nice one FG. My first memory of seeing the Albion in the FAC was vs Wisbech at the Goldstone in 1965 when we won 10-1; also saw us turn Saarfend over 9-0 in the league later the same season. Probably the most notable FAC game I remember in the 60's was when we drew Chelsea in 1967; Bobby Tambling gave them a first half lead but Dave Turner equalised past Peter Bonnetti in front of the South stand during the second half. Brian Tawse, and the rest of us, thought he'd scored the winner late on with a long distance effort but it was controversially disallowed for offside.

Southend was 9-1 and only 2 weeks later. In between we had lost 0-2 to QPR at home though. We could only draw with Bedford Town 1-1 in R2 and went out 1-2 in the replay. The Third round before the Chelsea tie in 67 deserves mention. Aldershot (away) - travelled there on a steam train special in heavy rain (probably for the last time) - the game only got the go-ahead after we arrived. Nearly 13,000 there (at Aldershot !!!) for a 0-0. We knew Chelsea were on the way before the replay (a must win) 29261 at the Goldstone for a 3-1 win (Kit Napier, Eric Whitington and Charlie Livesey)
