Now if you had started the thread with a good suggestion like that Nibble, instead of some overblown old leisure centre with pools, ice rinks, climbing walls, tennis/squash/badminton courts, gyms, cafes, restaurants, etc i think you would have got a better reaction

I would have got exactly the same reaction from folks who like to argue and pretend they know everything about Brighton.

I always thought it would have made a great leisure centre too, infact I think I suggested it once in a crap geography project we had to do.

That said, it is BETTER than nothing, having such a huge area of wasteland in central Brighton was criminal. I think the need for a leisure centre was going to diminish by the new work at Black Rock, King Alfred et all, which still hasn't appeared yet.

I hope that with time, the new development may acquire some character, because most new things start off quite alien and stark until they begin to become more homely and less clinicial.

We can hope...anyway!

No, you just have a low tolerance threshold when it comes to some else's opinion.

*Thinks: child-smacking thread, and wanders off...*

Not at all. I didn't become abusive or name call once in this thread. Unlike you my friend.

On the smacking issue I stand by my beliefs so referencing something completely out of context isn't really going to help you with your ill founded argument.

I have a very high tolerance for other people's opinion I just get agitated when peopel like you resort to semantics, name calling and splitting hairs whilst ignoring the debate. You tend to dig at the person rather than move the debate forward.

The smacking thing became heated because it is ahighly charged issue, this issue is just a regular debate which you decided to get nasty in once you began to lose ground.

So there!

Wanders off to a thread on a slightly less weighty issue where he may have a chance of holding his own.

getting back to the point

I would have tried to make the houses/flats for local people...not sure how though

Abort, retry, fail
Part of the scheme is covered by the Homebuy Scheme.

www.homebuy.co.uk/

Keyworkers should get priority and they will obviously be local, but could a single nurse afford a mortgage for a £140,000 property? Shared Ownership is the way forward, but I am unsure as to whether that is an option on this scheme or particular phase.

But, as TLO has pointed out, we don't need another city centre leisure centre to go with the Prince Regent and King Alfred's. What we do need are more leisure centres in the outlying regions: Moulsecoomd, Coldean, Bevendean, Patcham, Hollingbury, Hollingbury etc - those are the areas that could be better catered for (and, yes, there is a leisure centre in Moulsecoomb but it's pretty pony).

I have no objection whatsoever to Londoners coming down here and have no particular objections to that development near the station but I do wish that some of the money that's coming into the town could be diverted to the less well-heeled areas of Brighton and Hove.

And leave London Road alone - the Open Market is one of the joys of shopping in Brighton. It's should be greatly expanded not demolished.

The keyworkers scheme is a bit overrated as you have to have money in the bank before you can get onto it and you have to be on along waiting list and no, a lot of keyworkers can't afford what they are offered anyway.

My ex was a teacher and she had to give up the keyworker thing in the end. She has been teaching for a while and was quite high up the pay spine but still too much.

That's the umpteenth time I've seen 'roll' spelled wrongly this week. Is it this week's misspelled word or something? :)

Jesus, not that you're trying to prove my point. Talk about accusing someone of throwing stones while living in a glasshouse.

I never 'lost any ground' on this debate (were we supposed to be point-scoring?) - in fact, that's quite a silly thing to say, but not surprising from you considering your attitude to people who disagree with you. I put across an alternative point of view to you believing we've all been conned. You just didn't like it and decided to assign me a set of values (I'm short-sighted, I can't see the bigger picture) for which you had no basis, and had nothing to do with the debate. You were wrong to do so.

I was wrong to call you - ironically, though you either missed the irony, or you deliberately didn't want to see it - a little wanker.

You the proceeded to call me a coward - twice. And don't even think of saying that was ironic. And you don't resort to name-calling?

And you still haven't answered the question - what, sensibly, would you want on the station site?

f*** me, are you HB&B, with your holier than thou attitude to Brighton? Tell us, oh great understander of weighty issues, abuser and non-listener of alternative points of view, and paragon of all things central Brighton, what should become of the Station site? After all...

...WE'VE ALL BEEN CONNED.

Oh, please.
