[Albion] Yes we have injuries but tactically that was garbage, again.

That’s also indicates that they have a plan A and a plan B … and probably a plan C if needed. I think BHA lack that.

Similar squad cost.

Their plans A to Z leave Brentford 15 points behind us. Tonight their plan B, at home against little old Brighton, was to do a Hughton.

Everyone agrees we need wingers for RDZ’s style of play. Joao Pedro has been excellent out wide or in the 10 role every time he’s played there. Put Pedro and Adingra on either side and start Evan for every single one of the last 8 games. What do we have to lose?
A couple of million (£5 million) and potential European place. I would give it another 4 games and see and if we are to play anyone put O'Mahoney in...

We all have our opinions and yes yes I think it is true. That was up there with the most inept performance a Potter team ever produced, and much worse than most. Pure and utter negative garbage, we didn’t look vaguely like scoring.

Suck it up and move on to Arsenal
Can’t really call in negative we tried to break them down we couldn’t. Maybe we could have put 10 men behind the ball as well and both done f all in the game. Teams give us huge amounts of respect maybe to much in some cases - but negative would have been Brentford’s approach to tonight

Villa's set up tonight vs Citeh is similar to Brentford, yet even without Haaland and De Bruyne they have plenty of quality to score 4 goals. It os all about quality, and I felt we looked like an average side. We are so missing the 24 goals that Mac, Trossard and March brought us last season. Not kids, not elder statesmen, but quality players in their prime.

What has Fati done to not even get on the pitch? Has to be an option when we are so totally clueless in the final third surely

Though I think it was more finishing than tactics which was the problem tonight. There are things I think we should be doing against low block teams. First, selection.

Lamptey is much more direct than Adingra
Enciso is much more creative than Facu
Lallana was a good selection for this game
Pedro was our best player

These would be my front 4 from the players we have fit in the can we break the defence type games (of which we only now have 2)

The thing that needs to be done differently is the speed. Wingers turning back and recycling should be coached out of them, not into them. Their job is to deliver a cross or get a corner. If we lose the ball because the keeper has claimed it or we hit the first man so be it.

More shooting out of the box, but some of the rush of blood, weaker foot hacks today were staggeringly bad

The problem, as we all know, is that the RDZ way involves two attacking wingers to make the pitch wide and create space in the middle. Unfortunately we don't really have a Plan B. The lack of Mitoma (and March) has been a serious handicap this season.
That's also how I see it (when against an opponent low blocking), so if we're right and our game depends on having excellent players in those positions, we need to invest more in backup there.

We let them get every player behind the ball every time we attacked, even after one of their attacks broke down, we never went at them with pace. We passed sideways and backwards until Brentford had every player back before we went forward and even then took three, four or five passes before the ball went to the wings when it could have gone first time. We showed them as much respect as they showed us and the teams just cancelled themselves out because neither risked anything. I’ll shut up now but that was a horrible depressing watch to me.

I said the same in post #15. ManC play similarly to us, Rodri and Foden the difference.

Look at the PL goals missing from last season’s greatest ever Albion team. The reason’s for the decline this season are crystal clear.

PL goals 2022/23:
MacA 10
Gross 9
Solly 7
Mitoma 7
Ferguson 6
Undav 5
Enciso 4

Most frustrating thing of all for me.

7 of them generally stayed back.

Ridiculous thread. Difficult to break down two parked buses.
Proves the value of the OP (if I do say so myself). When a team has parked the bus and you steal possession high up or get a turnover of the ball and break, take advantage of the unexpected space. Instead we turned back and slowed the ball down over and over and allowed Brentford back in position to re-park the bus.
